- 3:45pm Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only) Performs maintenance and repairs of City streets and roadways, including preparing road surfaces for patching or overlay, paving, and repairing potholes, slide spots, and sink holes as necessary; Digs, shovels, hauls, and unloads soils, backfill, and other materials; Maintains City streets in the winter months to ensure safe and efficient traveling conditions for both pedestrians and vehicles, including plowing and sanding streets, and steam spraying for ice removal; Maintains the City's alley rights-of-way as necessary, including, trimming, collecting and hauling brush, compost, or recyclables piles; Provides year-round creek maintenance to ensure the maintenance of safe water levels, including keeping creek free of debris, and chopping ice in the winter months as necessary; Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment; Operates and maintains light• medium• and heavy-duty equipment and trucks, including backhoes, front-end loaders, pickups, snowplows, pavers, cold milling machine, mowers, tractors, brush chippers, and other related equipment; Operates a variety of basic hand and power tools and construction equipment; Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the work day; Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems; Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas; Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
