Job Description Public Works Operations is seeking enthusiastic employees who want to be part of the Chesapeake team that provides road, bridge, drainage, and stormwater services to its citizens while offering excellent benefits to its employees, such as paid training, ample growth opportunities, attractive working hours, competitive medical and supplementary benefits, retirement plans, a supportive team working environment, and many others. Qualified applicant should be able to:
Assist in the repair of storm drain cave-ins.
Assist in placing and finishing concrete and removing sidewalk and curb & gutter.
Assist in repairing asphalt pavement.
Assist in vegetation control, debris removal, and loading trucks.
Flag traffic for traffic control.
Perform manual labor.
Assist in cleaning and digging drainage ditches and cleaning and repairing stormwater structures.
Perform emergency response functions such as hurricane road clearing and snow/ice control.
Participate in training and skills development in construction methods and equipment operation towards career progression and personal advancement. Requires the ability to use hand tools to perform labor, basic knowledge of construction and tools, and ability to learn and carry out flagging procedures and adhere to safety procedures.
Applicants will be placed in one of three locations
- Greenbrier Yard (925 Executive Blvd.
), Hickory Yard (149 Benefit Rd), or Bowers Hill Yard (3900 S Military Hwy), depending on operational needs.
Applicants with a valid Driver's License in compliance with City Standards will have opportunity for potential advancement into Equipment Operator positions as skills develop.
