Job Description:
This position is located at 906 Executive Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. Join the City of Chesapeake Team as a Tradeshelper. The Public Utilities Maintenance & Operations Division is seeking motivated, dependable candidates to join our Facilities Section as a Tradeshelper. This role offers meaningful work that helps maintain essential city infrastructure while allowing you to develop valuable maintenance and trade skills. What You'll Do As a Tradeshelper, you'll play an important role in maintaining over 280 Sewer Pump Stations throughout the City of Chesapeake. You'll work both outdoors and indoors to help keep city-owned properties safe, functional, and visually appealing for the community.
Your daily responsibilities may include:
Operating stand-up and ride-on mowers, weed eaters, edgers, bush trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws, and other landscaping equipment Maintaining grounds and exterior areas to ensure a clean and professional appearance Performing light carpentry, painting, metalworking, and minor facility repairs Assisting with maintenance, modifications, and repairs to buildings, structures, and equipment Inspecting facilities and identifying maintenance needs Completing job-related reports, logs, and activity documentation Supporting other maintenance and operational tasks as assigned What We're Looking For We're seeking candidates who are reliable, safety-conscious, and eager to learn.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires one month of vocational training or a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . Special certifications may be required based on department and assignment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
