  • $45,527; Depending on Qualifications Job Description The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Tradeshelper in our Facilities Maintenance Division .
The Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for maintenance, repair, major renovation and energy maintenance in existing buildings and facilities. This position provides various types of assistance to Facility Maintenance Technicians and Coordinators. This includes assisting with all types of maintenance and repairs at City facilities, acting as a safety observer, delivering parts/equipment to repair shops, making parts runs for jobs, cleaning maintenance and mechanical spaces, etc. The position is also expected to attend training as directed to become qualified for Facilities Maintenance Technician I positions. The ideal candidate is one who is knowledgeable in the general and building maintenance trade; knowledgeable of various hand tools and safety regulations; hard working and dependable; good communication skills; and enjoys working alongside lead technicians in performing repairs throughout the City of Chesapeake. VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
: Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires one month of vocational training or a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . Special certifications may be required based on department and assignment.

: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
