Job Description

The individual in this position shall be required to perform manual labor in the operation, maintenance, and repair of stormwater and public works infrastructure. Completes all other work as assigned. Performs general and varied maintenance duties and manual tasks in assisting with all stormwater division activities. Operates trucks of varying size and weight and other equipment of moderate complexity for stormwater division operations. Performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned vehicles, operates street sweeper, mowers, and other vehicles or equipment, including the vacuum truck as necessary. Assists in winter maintenance, operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal and sanding; Plows, sands, and salts sidewalks and municipal parking lots as required. Assists in public works-related emergencies as required. Performs duties in accordance with established safety and operational procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgment in operating equipment. Makes occasional contacts with other city personnel and with the public. Ensures time and work are accounted for on written work orders. Supports the coordination of activities between all the staff and other departments within the city and performs other necessary tasks or functions as necessary to accomplish City and Department goals and objectives. High school diploma, one year or more of experience in related construction activities, preferably in public highway maintenance and repair, including stormwater facilities. Equivalency considered. Must have a valid Vermont CDL license with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within six months. Possesses basic computer skills required to perform essential functions. Demonstrated ability to learn and acquire working knowledge of NPDES Phase II and OSHA regulations. Demonstrated ability to follow standard safety practices. Demonstrated ability to establish working relationships with employees and the public. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. Must have a working knowledge of vehicles and equipment associated with utility operations.
