Custodian/Maintenance Worker

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Custodian/Maintenance Worker to keep the new CWU facilities building, clean, safe, and well-maintained. This vital role involves performing a variety of custodial and maintenance tasks to ensure a clean, organized, and functional environment for staff and visitors alike. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety across our premises. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a positive workplace atmosphere while developing valuable skills in facilities upkeep. The work will take place at the new facilities being built by the James E. Brooks Library on April 6th. Duties Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation to uphold cleanliness standards. Conduct floor care activities such as buffing, stripping, sealing, and polishing floors to maintain a professional appearance. Carry out janitorial tasks in various areas including offices, hallways, classrooms, and common spaces with efficiency and attention to detail. Assist with custodial responsibilities related to commercial cleaning, industrial cleaning, and residential painting projects as needed. Support facilities maintenance by inspecting equipment, reporting repairs needed, and performing minor repairs or adjustments. Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and ensure proper storage and usage of cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety protocols. Support porter duties such as moving furniture or equipment and ensuring the facility's overall cleanliness and safety. Requirements Proven experience in custodial work or janitorial services with a strong understanding of cleaning procedures. Knowledge of and/or willing to learn floor care techniques including buffing, stripping, sealing, and polishing floors. Experience with commercial or industrial cleaning environments preferred. Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and basic repairs around the facility. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
