Job Description

Maintenance I Port Angeles, WA 98362 $24.28 - $25.49 an hour - Full-time $24.28 - $25.49 an hour - Full-time Job Overview The Maintenance 1 position is a full-time, union-represented (ILWU Local 27) position at the Port of Port Angeles that has responsibilities primarily at Port Angeles Boat Haven but may be assigned to other departments when needed. The Maintenance 1 position will work a daily eight-hour or 10-hour shift, some weekends may be required, and work shifts may be adjusted to accommodate the Port or Port customer needs. The Maintenance 1 performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures to buildings and grounds as assigned and coordinates with fellow employees to expedite work safely. Duties Performs janitorial, maintenance, and minor repairs on buildings and grounds. Assigned duties will be performed under the primary supervision of the Harbormaster. Efficiently coordinates with skilled Maintenance staff and/or assigned supervisor(s) for the purpose of completing and/or securing materials, completing specific tasks, etc. May transport parts and supplies as required. Completes checklists of periodic maintenance work and maintains records of scheduled maintenance activities using forms or by computer. Responds to emergency requests during and after hours as required. Perform general pest control duties.
Assists with renovation/remodeling of buildings:
repairs drywall; paints building structures. Performs outside duties including snow removal, vegetation management, weed control and mowing. From time to time, other duties may be required, such as assisting with construction activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. Education and/or
Experience:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of responsible experience in building and/or landscaping maintenance. 2.
Machinery and Tool Experience:
Ability to operate a forklift, sweeper trucks, water truck, lawnmower, riding lawnmower/tractor, pressure washer, weed sprayer, weed-eater, chainsaw, brush cutter, and hedge trimmer. One must also be able to use basic hand tools such as a hammer, shovel, rake, etc. 3.
Language and Mathematical Skills:
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other Port employees. Superb internal and external customer service skills. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics. The position may involve some bookkeeping duties. Basic computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) skills are a plus. 4.
Teamwork:
Ability to get along with and learn from others. Willingness to be flexible in work assignments. Must be a problem solver and display mechanical aptitude. Must be able to work under time constraints and comply with
OSHA/WISHA
regulations. Ability to apply common sense understanding and objectively evaluate situations. Consistently show up to work on time prepared for the day's work activities. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 1. Valid Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record. 2. Ability to obtain the State of Washington pest control and herbicide certificate within six months of hire. 3. Ability to obtain a flagger's certificate if needed. Applicant will be required to obtain or possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Obtaining a TWIC will require an extensive background security threat assessment.
