20 Hrs/Wk MTWTH 12p-4p, F 9a-1p Sept - June 16 Hrs/Wk MTWTH 12p-4p Jul & Aug At First Presbyterian Church we are seeking to grow as a community, experiencing and living out the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ. Internally Strong - Externally Focused Provide upkeep and maintenance of the buildings and grounds for First Presbyterian Church. Seek to create a clean, safe and supportive environment for the many diverse activities of this church body and its people. This position will provide in the management of FPC property and grounds by:- Oversee and maintain the overall care of the facility, grounds, walkways and parking lots.
- Team Member of Facility Maintenance staff.
- Support staff and members of the congregation for event logistical support.
- Manage church equipment and storage areas.
- Work with volunteers for kitchen duty, grounds clean up, etc.
- Perform all other priorities and duties as assigned by the Campus Care Manager.
- Ensure the security of the church building and grounds by operating security and fire alarm procedures before and after normal business hours to protect against theft, damage by fire, vandalism, and/or water damage.
- Perform custodial and housekeeping duties that may include tasks such as: floor & window care, cleaning, vacuuming, removing rubbish and waste paper, setting up or removing furniture and equipment.
- Perform maintenance tasks as assigned such as painting, basic plumbing, and basic carpentry repairs.
- Maintain safe, clean and open walkways and grounds. Provide seasonal upkeep of the grounds and parking lots by mowing, trimming, and weeding church landscape. Snow shoveling and ice removal on sidewalks, walkways and sewer drains.
- Respond urgently to staff and congregants to address potential security and maintenance concerns.
- Ensure set-ups, take downs, and cleaning for classes/events/meetings are completed on time and as requested.
- Be on call after hours for security and maintenance emergencies.
- Develop annual goals for facility improvement projects.
- Create a positive, Christian relationship with our neighbors and surrounding business community.
- Employ a caring yet firm move and clean up policy with homeless and people in need. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Have mechanical aptitude, skill and knowledge in the safe use of a variety of custodian tools, chemicals, equipment and supplies.
- Have general knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Have knowledge of custodial and deep cleaning methods, safe work habits and standards.
- Ability to plan and prioritize assigned duties within a given work schedule. Be able to identify the implied tasks required to complete given responsibilities. Assume responsibilities as delegated.
- Exercise basic handyman maintenance skills in plumbing, electrical, construction, etc.
- Be able to work effectively and efficiently without supervision and in a busy team environment.
- Develop and maintain effective work relationships with church staff, volunteers, congregants and contractors.
- Follow oral and written instruction and communicate in writing or verbally.
- Maintain a presentable appearance at all times.
- Be a responsible steward of church resources.
- Identify areas of improvements and cost saving opportunities.
- Have a phone or other type of communication device available while on shift.
- Have physical ability to ascend / descend stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ramps and related.
- Have physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, seize, hold, grasp, and turn equipment and tools.
- Be in good physical condition with the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must have reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years custodial experience.
- 1-3 years basic facility maintenance or building experience.
- Lawncare experience. Preferred Personal Characteristics
