Job Description
Job Summary As the Manager of Power Generation at Kodiak Electric Association, Inc., you will lead and oversee the Power Generation Department to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable power generation for the Cooperative. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, you will be responsible for the overall performance of power generation facilities and equipment, supervising a team of technicians and operators, managing budgets, overseeing maintenance programs, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Your role also involves developing departmental plans, participating in strategic meetings, and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, along with ten years of power generation experience. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential to excel in this role. Responsibilities Lead and manage all operations within the Power Generation Department to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power production. Oversee daily performance of all power generation facilities, equipment, and personnel. Ensure adequate generation capacity is available at all times to meet system load requirements. Direct and support subordinate supervisors and provide hands‑on supervision for staff not under a supervisor. Manage and optimize preventative maintenance programs, equipment performance, and cost‑control initiatives. Uphold all Cooperative policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws in all supervisory actions. Recruit, train, evaluate, and develop department staff; address performance issues and recommend disciplinary actions when necessary. Develop, prepare, and manage annual departmental budgets, ensuring cost‑effective operations. Lead short‑term and long‑term planning for power generation assets, staffing, and system needs. Oversee power generation projects from planning through execution, ensuring quality and compliance. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with Operations, Substations, Engineering, Finance, and Safety departments to support system reliability and organizational goals. Conduct regular departmental safety and informational meetings to reinforce a strong safety culture. Maintain strong working relationships with employees, cooperative members, agencies, consultants, and the public. Provide timely, accurate information to the President/CEO and participate in executive‑level planning and policy discussions. Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering preferred Ten years of power generation experience preferred Experience in managing power generation facilities and equipment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills Ability to develop and manage budgets, conduct maintenance programs, and ensure compliance with regulations Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Valid Alaska driver's license and ability to work in various weather conditions Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continual improvement
