Maintenance and Reliability Leader

Georgia-Pacific is looking for a Maintenance and Reliability Manager to join our team in Brewton, AL! Your Job Georgia-Pacific's Containerboard Division is hiring a Maintenance and Reliability Leader for the Brewton Paper Mill in Alabama. This leader will report directly to the Plant Manager and be responsible for both salaried maintenance leadership and union hourly maintenance teams. The ideal candidates will lead preventative and predictive maintenance programs, providing expert technical support to troubleshoot issues, reduce downtime, and improve process efficiency across the facility. These roles require close collaboration with engineers and operations teams to evaluate and address maintenance needs for daily operations and scheduled shutdowns. • Lead and direct all maintenance and reliability activities in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including preventive, predictive, corrective, outage, and breakdown maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards.
• Develop, mentor, and hold the maintenance organization accountable, establishing clear goals, expectations, and performance standards aligned with plant and business objectives.
• Partner closely with Operations and Engineering to align maintenance strategies with production goals, support equipment installations, upgrades, and repairs, and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Manage the design, implementation, and improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability, availability, and lifecycle cost performance.
• Develop leaders for troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex equipment failures using structured methodologies (e.g., RCA, 5-Why, FMEA), and ensure lessons learned are institutionalized across the organization.
• Monitor and analyze equipment performance and reliability metrics (e.g., MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance), identifying opportunities for reliability improvements, risk reduction, and cost savings.
• Manage maintenance resources effectively, including manpower, budgets, tools, contractors, and indirect spare parts inventory, to optimize cost, service levels, and operational readiness.
• Ensure identification and alignment of maintenance-related capital projects, including equipment upgrades, replacements, and modifications, from scope development through execution and commissioning.
• Ensure capability and preparedness, competencies of the maintenance team to respond effectively to unplanned outages, critical breakdowns, and safety-related events with minimal production impact.
• Drive a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and internal policies.
• Manage external service providers and suppliers, ensuring quality execution, cost control, and timely availability of parts and services.
• Collaborate with purchasing and stores organizations to optimize spare parts strategies, inventory levels, and material availability while controlling working capital. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
• Maintenance supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, including responsibility for managing direct reports, developing and managing spend plans
• Implementing precision / predictive maintenance strategies across multiple departments
• Use of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
• Managing both hourly and salary work teams
• Leveraging reliability best practices, in mechanical and electrical disciplines What Will Put You Ahead
• Certificate or Degree in a maintenance skilled trade, engineering or related field
• Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP)
• Experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP)
• Pulp & Paper Experience
• Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives and maintenance best practices, incorporating tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and TPM to improve efficiency and reduce waste
• Knowledge of Industry 4.
