Job Description
JOB The Cosumnes Community Services District ("District") Parks and Recreation Department invites qualified and enthusiastic candidates to apply for the Park Maintenance Supervisor position within the Park & Golf Operations Division. Position DescriptionUnder general supervision, supervises and assists crew members in the day to day routine repair of parks, parkways, landscaped corridors and medians, golf course, swimming pools and recreational facilities. This position is used throughout the Parks and Recreation Department and may be assigned to the Park Operations Division. Functions and responsibilities expected to be performed may vary by area of assignment. Incumbents may be assigned to a specialization including but not limited to Irrigation Specialist, or Inspector of contracted landscaping activities.
This positions may require candidates to work weekend shifts, holidays, and evening shifts. Park Maintenance Supervisors in the Park Operations Division are represented by Teamsters Local #853. Salary InformationThe salary range for the Recreation Supervisor classification is between$33.71 - $48.22 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge and shall be no more than the mid-point of the salary range.
Specialized assignments only: Irrigation and Inspector assignments have additional essential duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to the following: Works with and oversees the work of independent contracted landscape maintenance companies;Implements CSD policies, requirements, and specifications as set forth in contracts;Monitors compliance with plans and specifications related to landscape maintenance, new construction, irrigation and renovation projects;Conducts field inspections of landscaped areas; evaluates field problems;Plans and conducts meetings with contractors to discuss schedules, problems, and progress of contracted services as needed;Investigates and provides accurate, logical assessments and information to managers in regards to complaints or issues from the public or management.

The District participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). New members in the CalPERS system will receive a retirement formula of 2% at 62. Applicants who meet the CalPERS requirements for a "classic member" will receive a retirement formula of 2% at 55.All employees of the District participate in the Medicare portion of Social Security.
Full-time employees receive generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave allowances.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Supervises and coordinates the day to day work assignments of a crew on assigned projects including planning, assigning, and reviewing work; recommends salary increases and discipline, conducts performance evaluations, and assists with selection and promotion procedures for assigned staff;Oversees and performs regularly scheduled inspections, maintenance and repairs in one or more Parks and/or maintenance activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Irrigation, Pools, Turf/Plant Fertilization, Herbicide/Pesticide Application, Tool and Equipment Inventory/Repair, drainage systems, Playgrounds, Graffiti and Vandalism, Alternative Sentencing, Landscape Maintenance Contracts, etc.;Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;Plans and conducts staff meetings; instructs or trains other less experienced personnel on aspects of park and/or golf course maintenance as well as safe and proper handling of equipment utilized in the work;Provides input to the annual departmental budget; monitors and approves expenditures;Uses written and verbal instructions to assure prescribed work standards and procedures are met;Responds to emergency calls for repairs, particularly in instances which involve public safety;Responds to public inquiries and complaints;Monitors and inspects work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with contractual provisions and District standards;Responsible for equipment and supply procurements including receipt and payment of invoices for materials and supplies;Uses a computer to complete, maintain, and retrieve information on work assignments, keep records, prepare reports, and communicate electronically as necessary;Uses hand-operated and power-operated tools and equipment;Required to work a variety of shifts including, but not limited to, weekends, holidays and after hour emergency calls.Specialized assignments only: Irrigation and Inspector assignments have additional essential duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to the following: Works with and oversees the work of independent contracted landscape maintenance companies;Implements CSD policies, requirements, and specifications as set forth in contracts;Monitors compliance with plans and specifications related to landscape maintenance, new construction, irrigation and renovation projects;Conducts field inspections of landscaped areas; evaluates field problems;Plans and conducts meetings with contractors to discuss schedules, problems, and progress of contracted services as needed;Investigates and provides accurate, logical assessments and information to managers in regards to complaints or issues from the public or management.
