12-$27.88/hr DOE + performance-based annual bonus About the Role & Our Company Mr. Hankey's Toys is a growing San Diego-based manufacturer and e-commerce retailer of premium silicone adult novelty products. This full-time role is a hands-on, mechanically focused position responsible for keeping our production shop running: troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, building and maintaining molds, cleaning up 3D prints, supporting the production floor, and solving the day-to-day mechanical problems that come up in a small manufacturing shop.
Important:
This position involves direct work in and around our adult product line and coordination with our production artists. Candidates must be comfortable working in an adult-oriented industry and with silicone adult products. We ask all applicants to confirm this during the application process. This is not a desk-only management job, and it is not a one-task production job. The right person can move between troubleshooting equipment, maintaining molds and fixtures, finishing 3D prints, setting the pace on the floor, and stepping in wherever the shop needs them. Many of our production artists speak primarily Spanish, so bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus. You will report to our Director of Operations & Growth and ownership. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Mechanical Troubleshoot shop and production issues when equipment or tools are not working correctly. Maintain, repair, adjust, and improve equipment, tools, molds, fixtures, and work areas. Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and basic plumbing/PVC problems and correct them. Use hand tools and power tools daily across a wide range of tasks. Molds & Production Build, repair, clean up, and maintain molds. Clean up, correct, sand, finish, and improve 3D prints and related parts. Help keep production moving and step in where needed to hit shipping deadlines. Perform basic quality checks on parts and finished product. Shop Leadership Supervise floor staff, set the pace, and help hold the team to the right standard. Train and guide employees; set the tone without creating drama. Spot problems early instead of walking past them.
Make smart judgment calls:
fix what you can, and check in before making a bigger call that could cost time or money.
Administrative Basic computer work:
spreadsheet entries, simple software, order/shipping tasks, scheduling carrier pickups, and basic documentation. Requirements & Qualifications Mechanical ability: Strong mechanical instinct. You understand how parts, tools, machines, and materials work together, and you can diagnose a failure, test a fix, and solve it without a manual.
Tool experience:
You have used hand and power tools regularly, not just once in a while. This may come from maintenance, auto or motorcycle repair, construction, facilities, fabrication, mold work, plumbing, drywall/finish work, or another hands-on trade.
Attention to detail:
Mold work and 3D print cleanup require patience and clean finish work.
Adaptable pace:
Some tasks need speed, some need precision. You understand the difference.
Judgment:
You can work independently but know when to stop and ask before guessing.
Helper mindset:
You notice what needs doing, keep the floor moving, and don't need to be chased.
Leadership:
Able to supervise, train, and set the tone for a small team.
Computer comfort:
Able to use spreadsheets, simple software, email, and shipping tools. Training available for the right candidate.
Language:
Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred due to frequent coordination with Spanish-speaking production artists. English fluency required.
Industry comfort:

Work style:
Reliable, punctual team player able to work on-site in National City and perform physical tasks (standing, walking the shop, handling materials and packages).
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Helpful Backgrounds Experience in any of these is a plus: maintenance mechanic, facilities maintenance, auto or motorcycle repair, construction or skilled trades, drywall/bodywork/finishing, plumbing/PVC/light electrical, fabrication/CNC/machining/light welding, mold making/casting/silicone/plastics/3D printing, or production/shop lead and small-team supervision. You do not need all of these. We care more about mechanical instinct, judgment, and work ethic than a perfect resume.
