This role is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all maintenance activities within the manufacturing facility. This position oversees preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance programs while ensuring maximum equipment reliability, plant efficiency, employee safety, and regulatory compliance. The Maintenance Manager leads a team of 10 or more maintenance employees across three shifts and works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Operations to support continuous manufacturing operations. Duties Manage and supervise maintenance operations across three shifts, ensuring adequate staffing and support for a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Direct and develop a team of maintenance supervisors, leads, mechanics, electricians, and technicians. Establish and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability. Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns and coordinate corrective actions to minimize production downtime. Develop maintenance schedules and prioritize work orders based on operational needs. Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction. Collaborate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Safety departments to support manufacturing objectives. Manage maintenance budgets, labor costs, inventory levels, and capital improvement projects. Oversee procurement of maintenance parts, equipment, and outside contractor services. Ensure compliance with all company policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures and implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, equipment histories, and performance metrics through the CMMS system. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including downtime, equipment reliability, PM completion rates, and maintenance costs. Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and facility improvements. Conduct regular inspections of machinery, utilities, and facility systems. Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, and other safety programs. Train, coach, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel to improve performance and technical skills. Conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee development planning. Participate in emergency response activities and provide support during off-shift equipment issues as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervise maintenance supervisors and/or maintenance leads. Indirectly oversee a maintenance workforce of 10 or more employees. Schedule staffing coverage for all shifts and ensure efficient labor utilization. Conduct hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and corrective action activities. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Certifications Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) OSHA 30-
Hour Certification Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Certification Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Maintenance Certifications Experience:
Minimum 7-10 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience leading maintenance teams. Experience supervising multiple shifts and large maintenance departments. Experience with manufacturing, or industrial manufacturing preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems. Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial control systems. Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Experience with CMMS software and maintenance planning systems. Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, LOTO procedures, and workplace safety practices. Excellent leadership, communication, and employee development skills. Ability to analyze equipment performance data and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to manage budgets, inventory, and vendor relationships. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance management software. Physical Requirements Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing facility for extended periods. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, moving machinery, heat, and varying temperatures. Ability to respond to maintenance emergencies outside of normal business hours. Work Environment This position operates primarily in a manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with production equipment, maintenance shops, warehouse operations, and office personnel. The Maintenance Manager must be available to support operations across all three shifts and may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays when business needs dictate.
