Job Description

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations to ensure maximum productivity, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction. This position reports directly to the Director of Maintenance and is responsible for crew dispatching, field supervision, quality control, safety compliance/training, and the overall coordination of irrigation technicians, crew leaders, and field labor personnel. DUTIES Ensure all maintenance operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards. Conduct weekly safety meetings and reinforce compliance with all company safety policies and procedures. Identify landscape enhancement opportunities, prepare enhancement proposals, and coordinate follow-through with clients and management. Dispatch maintenance crews daily from the yard and oversee proper yard closing procedures at the end of each shift. Coordinate irrigation repairs and direct Irrigation Technicians regarding daily assignments and priorities. Manage and monitor annual maintenance schedules to ensure services such as fertilization, trimming, and seasonal tasks are completed in accordance with client contracts. Mentor and develop Crew Leaders and field employees on best practices, productivity, quality standards, and operational efficiency. Assist in managing construction project 90-day post-maintenance requirements, including projects located throughout Southern California counties. Complete administrative responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner, including chemical logs, safety documentation, extra work tickets, and project completion documentation for billing purposes. Attend monthly maintenance sales meetings and weekly maintenance operations meetings. Maintain regular communication with the Director of Maintenance, Account Managers, Crew Leaders, and Irrigation Technicians regarding operational needs and project status. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support maintenance operations. Be available for occasional after-hours work as operational needs require. Work schedules may vary seasonally, with start times typically ranging between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. depending on weather conditions, daylight, and operational demands.
LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
Ensure all maintenance crews comply with company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards through consistent supervision and oversight. Uphold and promote the company's mission, values, and policies while ensuring all crew members adhere to the same standards. Oversee the proper, safe, and efficient use of company vehicles, equipment, and tools in the field. Administer employee coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary procedures in accordance with company policy and the employee handbook when necessary. Conduct all job-related activities and transactions in compliance with company policies, procedures, standards, and best practices. Utilize company technology platforms and software programs to support communication, scheduling, reporting, and organization, including Microsoft 365, Outlook, Outlook Calendar, LMN, Excel, and Word. Demonstrate professionalism, initiative, sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining strong attention to detail. Effectively delegate responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and support operational efficiency within the maintenance division. SAFETY Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and operational standards while maintaining high levels of productivity and quality performance at all times. Immediately report all employee injuries, accidents, and safety incidents to Human Resources and/or the Safety Officer in accordance with company procedures. Supervise field employees to ensure proper uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety gear are worn and maintained for all assigned job functions.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to: Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as operational needs require. Read, interpret, and execute work in accordance with landscape and construction plans, specifications, and layouts.
  • Understand, follow, and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions while ensuring work assignments are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, subcontractors, clients, and vendors.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced work environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years of landscape construction, landscape maintenance, or related industry experience. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory/management experience. Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. OSHA 10 certification or higher preferred. Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Perform work in and around active traffic areas and moving vehicles. Perform work near natural and man-made bodies of water. Regularly work shifts of eight (8) or more hours per day, five (5) days per week, with overtime and weekend work required as business needs dictate. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and environmental conditions, including temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Ability to work in direct sunlight and outdoor conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and/or move up to 40 pounds. KPI's Maintain labor hours within or below established budget expectations. Achieve enhancement sales close rates of 75% or higher. Maintain a client retention rate of 100% through quality service and customer satisfaction. Ensure daily employee clock in/out compliance with a minimum 95% accuracy and completion rate. Maintain a strong safety culture with a goal of zero reportable workplace injuries. Support employee engagement and development to achieve a workforce retention rate of 95% or greater. Manage warranty-related expenses to maintain costs below $100 per month. Respond to client calls, emails, and service requests within 24 hours.
