Job Description

The City of Riverside, General Services Department is accepting applications for the position of
HVAC SUPERVISOR
to fill one (1) vacancy in the Building Maintenance Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. Under general supervision, the HVAC Supervisor will plan, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of semi-skilled workers and skilled technicians in the installation, maintenance, repair, alteration of mechanical and electrical systems equipment and fixtures related to the City's various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; and to do related work as required. For positions indicating a salary range from 1N - 2X, the top 15% of the pay range cannot be offered upon hire or upon an employee promotion. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Plan, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of semi-skilled workers and skilled technicians and maintenance support staff involved in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems equipment and fixtures related to facility HVAC systems. Supervise and participate in the installation, repair and replacement of temperature controls for energy management systems, programming of control panels and the regulation and adjustment of temperature at all City facilities. Establish preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems, air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment. Supervise other maintenance trades to determine and coordinate needed repair and modifications. Prepare and maintain records, correspondence and reports. Receive work orders; prepare estimates of time and materials needed; make sketches and diagrams for subordinates to follow; determine priorities with superior and schedule work in an orderly and timely manner and within budget constraints. Inspect work in process and upon completion for quality and conformance to instructions, building codes and standards; assist subordinates with difficult work problems. Prepare requisitions for materials and supplies; maintain records of time and materials used; prepare and submit records and reports as required. Conduct periodic inspections of City buildings, facility HVAC equipment and related fixtures to identify maintenance needs. Operates a City vehicle to travel between worksites, transport materials/equipment, or perform other job-related duties as required. Contact vendors and manufacturers in the resolution of difficult repairs and problems. Coordinate and supervise vendors on installations and repairs. Assist in budget preparation and administration. Supervise, train and evaluate subordinates.
Education:
High school graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
Experience :
Four years of experience at the journey level in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment and fixtures related to various building HVAC systems including some experience and/or training in supervisory skills applicable to the building services field.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Equipment Certification issued by the California Environmental Protection Agency. Possession of an appropriate, valid California motor vehicle operator's license.

Experience working on chillers and boilers
