Examples of Duties
MAJOR DUTIES
Supervises and/or participates in the training of new employees and all temporary help. Supervises and/or performs the pick-up of trash and garbage spills on roadways, public parks, and other city owned areas. Supervises and/or participates in asphalt and concrete installation and repair in the public right-of- way. Supervises and/or participates in the clearing of brush, cutting and edging grass/weeds with hand tools and power operated machines (i.e., commercial mowers and bush-hogging) within public rights-of-way. Supervises and/or participates in the general care of lawns and grounds; removes dirt, rubbish, weeds, leaves and other refuse from grounds, planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers. Assists the Public Works Field Operations Manager in the long-range plans for the Street Department. Keeps updated on current developments in the field. Supervises and gives input on orders of materials, equipment, and supplies for the Department. Supervises and/or performs general maintenance along streets including sidewalks, curbs and gutters, stormwater ponds, ditches, and in public parks. Assists in supervising and/or performs trash pickup including the operation of the knuckle boom truck throughout the City. Supervises and/or performs herbicide spraying within City limits. Supervises and/or participates in the clearing of ditches with bush cutter, digs ditches and shovels, places sandbags, and performs related works in trenches or excavations with water in excavation. Assists in scheduling routine maintenance of equipment used by the Street Department division. Assists in coordinating and planning of work schedules and assignment of duties. Supervises the creation of street signs for the City. Manages disciplinary matters and effectively resolves conflicts within a team environment. Keeps records and other data daily. Performs related duties. Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. Six (6) years of street maintenance experience, preferably within Street/Road Department environment Five (5) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Pass field proficiency test issued by the Field Operations Manager within six (6) months of employment. Previous experience performing heavy manual labor. Possession of or the ability to obtain State of Florida driver's license at the time of employment with an acceptable driving record for the City's insurance program. Possession of or the ability to obtain Class B CDL issued by the State of Florida (Class A is preferred) within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain Road Safety and Heavy Equipment Training (MOT Intermediate) from FDOT within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or the ability to obtain the ROW Herbicide Spray License within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or the ability to obtain the Aquatic Herbicide Spray License within one (1) year of employment. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Supplemental Information

Ability to keep accurate records and work orders. Ability to read, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to train and supervise large groups, including managing disciplinary matters. Ability to create and manage work schedules. Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to operate knuckle boom truck and boom axe. Ability to supervise the creation of street signs. Ability to perform all street-related duties.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Public Works Field Operations Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the Code of Ordinances, FDOT guidelines, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied management, supervisory, and technical maintenance duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to supervise the maintenance and repair of city streets and infrastructure. Successful performance contributes to safe and well-maintained streets.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, elected and appointed officials, contractors, vendors, citizens, and tourists. Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate people, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, see, walk, sit and stand. The work is typically performed while intermittently stooping, bending, crouching, balancing, reaching, grasping, and with repetitive motion. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, pushes and pulls objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, has good depth perception, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is performed in an office or outdoors, in extreme heat and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to sun, noise, dust, dirt, grease, chemicals, traffic, machinery with moving parts, and other hazards. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over Street Maintenance Workers and Street Maintenance Worker Trainees. •These are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.
PTO Leave :
Leave begins accruing immediately. The schedule varies slighter for Fire Fighters. Years Of Service Completed Annual Leave Cap Available less than 5 years: 152 hours 5 to 9 years: 176 hours 10 to 14 years: 200 hours 15 to 19 years: 224 hours 20 + years: 248 hours PTO begins accruing immediately. At the end of the year, any unused annual leave will roll over to the next year. Time will be accrued bi-weekly and shown on each paycheck.
RETIREMENT
General employees are fully vested after 10 years of employment. Employees can become partially vested at five (5) years of service. Partial vesting at five (5) years is 50%, six (6) years 60%, seven (7) years 70%, eight (8) years 80%, and nine (9) years 90%. General Employees are eligible for normal retirement upon the earlier of reaching age 55 and the completion of 10 years of credited service or reaching age 50 and the completion of 20 years of credited service. The amount of normal retirement benefit is based on your credited service and average final compensation. See General Employees' Pension Plan Summary for more details.

Employees receive 14 holidays per year.

Florida Blue Tiered Family Coverage available but paid by Employee via paycheck. (Blue Option LG Plan 03559 Spouse only $621/month; Child/Children $531/month; and Family $1,188/month) (Blue Option LG Plan HDHP Spouse only $280/month; Child/Children $244/month; and Family $535/month). Spouse Dental Coverage only $34.85/month; Child/Children $49.31/month; Family Dental Coverage $87.48/month.
Vision Coverage available:
Employee only: $5.24/month; Spouse only $10.50/month; Child/Children $9.97/month; and Family $15.67/month). Both are covered by Humana. The City also offers a suite of Allstate Worksite products available for purchase.
