Fleet Maintenance Supervisor - Mass Transit Department
Base Pay:
$25.22 - $31.53/hr- Open until Filled
- This role is responsible for the hands-on execution, management, and coordination of maintenance for a fleet of commercial passenger vehicles.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, adjust/test/rebuild engines etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements. Oversee and comply with local, state, and federal maintenance and safety SOPs, locally applicable public authority legislation, regulations, and standards, ensuring that maintenance staff follow them. Utilize and oversee the county/department-approved applications by maintenance facility staff to accurately record and track maintenance work orders and parts inventory. Manage preventive maintenance and "unscheduled" repairs for the vehicles serviced by this facility. Represent the maintenance activity at the local level in its interaction, communication, and coordination of activities with other local operations functions: driver/operator care, route operations, and customer care. Supervise the maintenance staff responsible. Diagnoses difficult problems and recommends repairs by locating sources of problems through observation of mechanical deficiencies in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments. Develops and administers Fleet operating and capital budgets by monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget. Performs other duties as assigned or required.TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and two years of specialized or technical training beyond high school in fleet maintenance, automotive repair, or a related field and five years of fleet maintenance experience, including three years at a lead or minor supervisory level; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.Licensing Requirements:
Valid Class "B" commercial class driver's license with air brakes and passenger endorsements with Florida D.O.T. Medical Certification or have the ability to obtain both within 90 days in this positionPreferred Requirements:
ASE Certification G-Suite experience Experience with EV vehicles, as well as propane engine diagnostics and troubleshooting Experience with compliance with the local applicable DOT compliance of Small-Medium-Heavy buses Transportation experience with a strong preference for passenger transportation Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAO's): Supervisory principles Budgeting principles Attention to detail and consistent formatting Self-motivated and driven problem solver Strong verbal and written communication skills Applicable tools and equipment utilized in the trade Vehicle and equipment repair techniques Applicable vehicle and equipment standards in assigned area of responsibility Occupational hazards and safety precautions Using computers and related software applications Conducting accident investigations Inspecting vehicles and equipment Prepare and monitor budgets Prepare technical specifications Read and comprehend technical repair manuals Maintain records Monitor and evaluate subordinates Delegate and prioritize work Prepare reports Exercise sound judgment Be decisive and creative in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable Utilize diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and/or repair heavy equipment. Read diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and reference manuals Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as decimals and percentages Apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems Coordinate, manage, and/or correlate data, including exercising judgment in determining time, place and/or sequence of operations Operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions Communication and interpersonal relations as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information in a professional manner.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.Benefits/Compensation Package:
