JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and managing all aspects of the municipality's fleet operations. This includes procurement, maintenance, repair, replacement planning, fuel management, regulatory compliance and budgeting, This role also supports a working relationship with Commerce City Schools
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop annual department budget.
  • Manage and coordinate the daily maintenance and repair of City owned cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and small engine equipment.
  • Determine inventory levels, obtain quotes, and orders parts and supplies.
  • Outsource maintenance and repair services outside of the scope of in-house services; obtain price quotes and negotiates the best price for all maintenance and repair services; select vendor; and ensure repairs are completed.
  • Establish and maintain vehicle operating and maintenance cost records, and evaluate information for purpose of vehicle disposal and replacement
  • Locate the equipment needed parts and obtain bids for new equipment.
  • Estimates vehicle and equipment repair costs; evaluates repair needs and cost of parts and labor; provides recommendations to Department
  • Service and repair equipment as required.
  • Monitor and maintain City's fuel distribution system, equipment and supplies, including usage reports. Issue fuel keys
  • Enforce safety regulations and policies
  • Maintains fleet maintenance lot and facility.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
ASE Certification Preferred Additional Requirements:
Applicant must have a satisfactory motor vehicle report.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of all city vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of city geography, including the locations of streets and rights-of-way. Skill in the use of heavy equipment. Computer skills Skill in interpersonal relations. Experience with work order systems Skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop. The work consists of continuous activity, frequent standing, sitting, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards. Must be able to stand occasionally for 6 to 8 hours per day or longer if necessary. Must have no restrictions that impair starting and stopping procedures on vehicles. Must be able to shift either standard or automatic transmission with right hand and arm occasionally for 6 to 8 hours or longer if necessary. Must have no restrictions that impair seat belt use or entering and exiting of equipment and vehicles. Must be able to lift, drag or carry fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds. Must have no climbing or height restrictions up to 12 feet on a ladder or other equipment. Must have no impairments that limit work capabilities in year-round weather conditions. Must be able to work in confined spaces; walk and work on slippery and uneven surfaces. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to grasp, hold objects and tools with full range of motion in wrists and arms. Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have hearing ability sufficient to understand general in-person and telephone conversation. Must have ability to read a variety of informational, technical documents, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will typically be performed in an office, shop, indoor setting and occasionally outdoors. While performing the functions of this position, the employee will be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of safety devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. The City of Commerce has the right to revise this job description at any time.
