Job Description

About the Role Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is seeking an experienced and compassionate Bereavement Services Officer to lead and manage the delivery of our Bereavement Services. This is a key leadership role within the Neighbourhood department responsible for ensuring the effective, compliant, and sensitive delivery of cemetery and bereavement operations across the borough. You will play a vital role in supporting bereaved families while overseeing service delivery, staff management, and continuous improvement of systems and processes. Key Responsibilities Lead, manage, and develop Bereavement Services and associated operational teams Ensure the efficient delivery of burial services across all council cemeteries Maintain full compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and statutory requirements Manage budgets, monitor expenditure, and ensure value for money in service delivery Oversee cemetery maintenance, repairs, and improvements, including closed sites Work collaboratively with funeral directors, contractors, community groups, and stakeholders Provide expert advice and guidance on bereavement-related matters Promote high standards of customer care and public service at all times About You We are looking for a motivated and resilient professional who can combine empathy with strong leadership and operational skills.
