This is not a desk job—the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time on the production floor performing maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, supporting production, and developing preventive maintenance programs. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibility. You will be responsible for maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, improving safety, and establishing maintenance systems that support long-term operational success. As our maintenance department grows, you will help build processes, train team members, and create a culture of proactive maintenance and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do:
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime. Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Maintain repair records and equipment history documentation. Source replacement parts and coordinate outside service providers when necessary. Perform as many repairs in-house as practical to reduce costs and improve response times. Preventive Maintenance Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs for all facility equipment. Schedule and perform routine maintenance activities. Track critical spare parts inventory and ensure availability of key components. Work with equipment manufacturers and vendors to establish maintenance best practices. Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation. Safety & Compliance Develop and maintain Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all equipment. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements. Maintain equipment safety labels, warnings, and documentation. Promote a safe working environment and participate in facility safety initiatives. Equipment Installation & Projects Support the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment. Coordinate utilities, wiring, controls, and facility modifications as needed. Work with vendors, contractors, and internal teams during equipment projects. Identify opportunities to complete installations and upgrades internally to reduce costs. Production Support Prepare equipment for production runs and ensure operational readiness. Assist with equipment changeovers and process improvements. Partner closely with Operations to prioritize maintenance activities and support production goals. Participate in daily production meetings and monthly safety meetings. Leadership Serve as the primary maintenance contact for the facility. Coordinate maintenance activities and support employees assisting with maintenance work. Help establish maintenance standards, systems, and department structure. Train and mentor future maintenance personnel as the department grows. QualificationsRequired 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, processing, or production environments. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Experience diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment. Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and maintenance planning. Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and workplace safety requirements. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure. Strong organizational and communication skills. Preferred Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience. Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and control systems. Experience installing and commissioning industrial equipment. Welding, fabrication, or machining experience. Technical training, certification, or related education.
