July 1, 2026 Join Our Team! Madrid Community School District is seeking a proactive, solutions-oriented leader to serve as our Director of Buildings and Grounds . This position oversees the maintenance, operations, custodial services, grounds, and facility planning across the district to ensure safe, efficient, and welcoming environments for students, staff, and the community. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, hands-on when needed, and committed to maintaining high-quality educational facilities. Job Duties Direct and oversee district custodial, maintenance, grounds, and facility operations. Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and long-range facility plans. Supervise, assign, support, and evaluate buildings and grounds staff. Coordinate repairs, renovations, and capital improvement projects. Oversee district grounds maintenance including snow removal, landscaping, and exterior upkeep. Manage building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, safety, and security systems. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental requirements. Develop and manage department budgets and purchasing. Coordinate and supervise contracted vendors and service providers. Assist with planning and preparation for district events and facility use. Maintain records related to maintenance schedules, inspections, and equipment. Collaborate with district administration to identify facility priorities and operational improvements. Participate in emergency response planning and support district-wide operations as needed. Qualifications Associate's degree or higher in facilities management, construction management, engineering, business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Demonstrated experience in facilities management, maintenance operations, construction, or related leadership roles. Experience supervising employees and managing multiple priorities. Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, custodial operations, and facility maintenance practices. Experience managing budgets, projects, and vendor relationships preferred. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work flexible hours when operational needs require. Required Licensure / Certifications Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required. Iowa evaluator approval/licensure preferred if responsible for employee evaluations (or ability to obtain). Applicable certifications related to facilities operations, maintenance, or safety preferred. Knowledge of OSHA standards and school facility safety requirements preferred.
