Job Description

State of Idaho Opportunity Idaho Division of Veterans Services - Caring for America's Heroes This position will remain open until filled; the posting will be taken down once a candidate is selected. The Idaho Division of Veterans Services (IDVS) has an opening for a Maintenance Operations Supervisor at the award-winning Pocatello Veterans Home. This position will plan, direct, and perform skilled maintenance and repair, and function as a foreman over various skilled trades areas. Incumbents may work in all weather conditions and move in and around confined spaces. This position involves lifting and carrying items weighing up to 90 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders. The employee in this position must be available for occasional after-hours emergencies and weekend on-call hours as needed.
Responsibilities:
Supervision/Coordination Determines needs and makes arrangements for contracted services. Negotiates with subcontractors to determine schedules, needs, and changes. Inspects work for compliance with contracts. Estimates budgets/cost expenditures and projects future needs. Lays out locations for staging and special events and directs setup and maintenance. Evaluates equipment life expectancy and replaces as appropriate. Writes maintenance reports. Meets with program directors, maintenance personnel, residents, and others to define needs and to keep facility organized and running smoothly. Interviews and hires staff and contractors, assigns work and evaluates performance, including writing and delivering staff performance appraisals. May supervise skilled trades staff. Facility maintenance Examines interior and exterior of buildings for damage and initiates necessary repair. Inspects fire extinguishers and systems for working ability. Maintains plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems. Inspects boilers and chillers for safe and efficient operation and tears down and repairs when appropriate. Inspects and lubricates fans, filters, and motors. Performs routine maintenance of vehicles. Ensures grounds surrounding facility are cared for properly and sprinkler systems are maintained. Oversees painting, remodeling, and building repairs. May oversee custodial services. Sets up preventive maintenance schedules. Knowledgeable with life safety regulations and life safety equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Performing skilled repair and maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, building maintenance, and grounds-related work; using specialized tools and equipment associated with trades indicated. Maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports. Estimating material needs and costs for jobs and reading blueprints and specifications.
Considerable knowledge of:
Building maintenance.
Good knowledge of:
Building codes. Life safety regulations and life safety equipment.
Some knowledge of:
Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) related work. Supervisory practices.
Clearance:
The Idaho Division of Veterans Services requires applicants to pass a criminal history background investigation after a conditional offer of employment.
