EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Building Official is part of the Village's Community Development department and reports directly to the Community Development Director. The Community Development team includes a staff of 17 full-time professional and administrative staff. The team consists of 2 building inspectors, 3 code compliance officers, health and consumer protection officer, building permit coordinator, 3 building permit technicians, planning manager, senior planner, associate planner, zoning administrator, and assistant to the director. The Building Official is responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the Building Division's activities and operations with a staff of 10 full-time employees. The position is the authorized enforcement officer of the Building Code, which includes the location, design, materials, construction, alteration, repair, equipment, maintenance, use, occupancy, removal and demolition of the buildings, structures, and appurtenances located in the Village of Tinley Park. In addition, this role performs a broad range of building, permitting, and code administrative functions, including plan review, building inspections, code administration, interpretation, and code compliance. The position works directly with property owners, architects, contractors, builders, and residents to explain code requirements, answer code-related questions, and diagnose and resolve project-specific permitting and construction related problems.
