Hourly Job Type:

Full-Time Shop Mechanic & Laborer in a junior-level position, and performs various service, maintenance, upfitting, and repair tasks on trucks, trailers, and especially railroad equipment, and various shop labor tasks. Also responsible for organization, and cleanliness of shop. Candidate should have a minimum of 1 year experience in shop work or mechanical experience, and candidate should be physically and mentally fit, with strong mechanical skills This position reports to the Lead Shop Mechanic.

Essential Functions:

Carry, lift, place, install various mechanical, machine, and truck components. Assist with function-testing, and perform diagnostics and repairs. Use hand and power tools to complete repair, maintenance and upfitting tasks. Cut associated materials with oxygen-acetylene torches, abrasive saws, band saws. Drill holes with gasoline, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric drills. Work alongside heavy equipment in a noisy environment. Participate in safety meetings. Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment.

Required Abilities:

Willing and able to report the the Romeoville, IL Shop location on a timely basis every scheduled work day. Posses entry level knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic circuits and systems, including testing, diagnostics and repairs. Familiarity working in a shop environment and around heavy equipment. Work on railroad equipment will be required, but applicant will be trained on the unfamiliar components by the Shop & Fleet Manager. Ability to work overtime, as needed, to maintain trucks and equipment for field operations. This may include weekends. Interact effectively with shop and field employees. Understand and follow verbal and visual communications. Understand and respond to audible and visual signals and warnings. Recognize, avoid and report potential hazards. Welding skills are not required, but are favorable.

Other Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver's license. Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States. Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check Job. Subject to FRA Random Drug Testing. Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds. Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions. Capable of working in crouched, bent, kneeling, and overhead positions. Must be able to read and comprehend written safety rules, procedure and safety manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations Other Most work tasks take place in the Shop or the Yard. The Shop is indoor, climate controlled with heated floors, overhead heat, ventilation and fans. Tools provided by company.
