Job DescriptionElevator Supervisor - Tuscola, ILThis is an exempt, salary-level role
Position Summary:
As an Elevator Supervisor, you will assist in all day-to-day activities of the elevator - including loading/unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storage of goods. You'll train and lead hourly employees in operations, safety, and facility maintenance, while initiating improvements to meet operational objectives. Maintaining a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, etc.), along with establishing and maintaining preventive maintenance, sanitation, and operation schedules, will be central to your success in this role.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate daily elevator operations, including loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storagePrioritize shift work and assign team resources based on experience, training, and capabilityChampion a culture of safety by actively participating in safety processes, conducting job hazard analyses, and maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, and other regulatory requirementsIdentify and address environmental, safety, and GMP hazards before they impact people, product quality, or the environmentDevelop and train hourly employees, actively investing in their proficiency and growthUse your mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot production systems, utilities, buildings, and groundsLead preventive maintenance scheduling, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtimePartner with the Plant Superintendent on work schedule planning and executionMaintain documentation, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure corporate policies are followed in daily operationsCollaborate with facility management to improve equipment reliability and overall operational effectivenessStay current on industry regulations and codes relevant to elevator systems design and operationFoster open communication and strong morale across your shift and department
Position Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED, with relevant on-the-job experience in grain elevator or similar agricultural/industrial operationsExperience leading or developing a team in an operations settingHands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills - mechanical and electricalFamiliarity with safety compliance and job hazard analysisClear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports and document activitiesComputer proficiency (Microsoft Office, email)
Nice-to-haves:
A bachelor's degree or technical certification in a relevant field preferredPrior supervisory experience in grain handling or agribusinessExperience with preventive maintenance programsPhysical requirements: This role involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 lbs and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs, prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking, and reaching. You'll operate manual and powered tools, climb stairs and ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors year-round - sometimes in dusty or noisy conditions.
