Job Description
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises 13 non-exempt Mill Technicians/Operators. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Purpose:
Manage employees on a paper machine to ensure safe and efficient manufacturing of 100% recycled containerboard.Leadership Skill Set:
Leads by example, mentoring, and exhibiting behaviors that are consistent with the company's values. May provide recommendations regarding staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action, and termination. May prepare and/or deliver performance appraisal for staff.Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage Mill Technicians/Operators to ensure accurate time management, scheduling, training, and meeting KPI's including mill goals, production, quality, and on-grade up-time. Compliance with all HR policies, SOP's, and collective bargaining agreement. Safety and environmental compliance through training, meetings, and enforcement of safety and environmental policies. Responsible for new employee orientation, training, and daily toolbox talks. Works with crew members and maintenance team to perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for paper breaks and mechanical failure. Assesses individual training needs and plans training. Works with the Paper Machine Superintendent to plan and execute mill maintenance shutdowns. Maintains equipment through assuring basic care rounds, operator maintenance, housekeeping, and effective use of maintenance resources are completed. Champions continuous improvement processes and equipment reliability. Communication among crew members, other shift supervisors, and management through shift turnover and daily reporting. Works with crew members to resolve issues or complaints; communicates concerns with the Paper Machine Superintendent and Human Resources Manager if necessary. Other functions that may be assigned.Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle items or feel. Regularly move, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. Bend at the waist and twist upper body. Regularly walk the distance of a large manufacturing facility. Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Climb or balance on stairs, ladders, and catwalks. Occasionally required to sit, drive heavy machinery such as a forklift and clamp truck. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Work Environment:
Noise level can and will be very loud most times (80+dB). Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; vibrations. Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.Other Duties:

Required:
Minimum of 5 years of 100% recycled containerboard experience. College degree a plus Preferred managerial experience. Ability to work a 12-hour, rotating shift schedule. Additional Requirements Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the ability to learn new applications. Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong mechanical knowledge and aptitude. Well-developed ability to build lasting relationships, provide recognition and demonstrate integrity and high personal standards.Job Specific Competencies:
Solid understanding of the operation of 100% recycled containerboard. Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communication to individuals and groups of diverse sizes.
