Full-Time | Exempt or Non-Exempt (based on final classification) Position Overview At Flanner House of Indianapolis, our spaces are more than buildings. They are places of healing, learning, nourishment, organizing, and community transformation. The Head of Maintenance & Facilities Operations ensures those spaces remain safe, functional, welcoming, and reflective of the dignity our community deserves. This position provides leadership for the daily maintenance, repair, cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of all Flanner House facilities and grounds. The role directly supervises custodial staff while coordinating preventative maintenance, vendor relationships, facility improvements, and emergency response efforts across multiple programs and properties. The ideal candidate is highly organized, solutions-oriented, dependable under pressure, and committed to excellence in community-centered environments. Core Responsibilities Facilities & Maintenance Leadership  Oversee the maintenance and operational integrity of all Flanner House facilities, grounds, classrooms, offices, community spaces, greenhouses, and program sites.  Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, appliances, and equipment.  Perform or coordinate repairs and maintenance work in a timely and cost-effective manner. .  Conduct routine inspections to identify safety concerns, operational issues, and facility improvement needs.  Maintain inventory and ordering systems for maintenance tools, supplies, equipment, and custodial materials.  Coordinate facility readiness for community events, meetings, trainings, and organizational activities.  Ensure compliance with health, safety, licensing, and regulatory requirements. Custodial Staff Management  Directly supervise and schedule custodial staff across all Flanner House properties.  Establish cleaning standards and operational procedures that ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming.  Conduct routine quality checks and provide coaching, accountability, and professional support to custodial team members.  Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluating custodial staff.  Create work schedules that ensure adequate coverage for evenings, weekends, special events, and emergencies when necessary. Safety & Operations  Serve as a lead point person for building safety, emergency response coordination, and operational troubleshooting.  Maintain records related to inspections, repairs, warranties, service agreements, and maintenance logs.  Coordinate with contractors, vendors, inspectors, and service providers.  Support organizational preparedness during weather emergencies, power outages, or facility-related incidents.  Ensure proper setup and breakdown of spaces for organizational and community use. Leadership & Culture  Model professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, and respect in all interactions.  Contribute to a culture rooted in dignity, care, excellence, and community stewardship.  Support Flanner House's mission through the creation and maintenance of environments where staff, children, families, and community members can thrive. Qualifications  High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade experience preferred.  Minimum 5 years of facilities, maintenance, custodial, or building operations experience.  Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.  Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building systems.  Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and coordinate repairs effectively.  Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.  Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and supplies as needed.  Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.  Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency response situations. Preferred Characteristics  Self-starter who takes initiative without constant supervision.  Calm and solution-oriented under pressure.  Strong sense of ownership and pride in maintaining community spaces.  Commitment to creating environments rooted in dignity and hospitality.  Experience working in schools, nonprofits, community centers, or multi-site facilities preferred.
