This position is located in District 04 Operations, Unit 071, Bossier Parish of DOTD and reports directly to the Equipment Superintendent. The incumbent should have a working knowledge of equipment repair, to effectively supervise the activities of the Mobile Equipment Mechanic and Welding Shops. The incumbent must be self motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. This position provides supervision to employees performing mechanic and welding activities throughout District 04, which includes the parishes of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Desoto, Red River and Webster. A valid Louisiana Class "D" Chauffeur's License is required before appointment. Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience or training as a mechanic. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
Supervises and schedules all mobile equipment repairs in the District 04 Bossier Mechanic and Welding Shop, consisting of mechanical, welding, and preventive maintenance. Create, assign, update and complete work orders for equipment repairs. Inspect repair work in process and upon completion and evaluate work performance of subordinates. Maintain cost and time records for repair activities. Monitor supply inventories to ensure adequate supplies are available. Assist subordinates with repairs as well as make minor repairs in the shop and in the field as needed. Perform quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment and may be required to inspect work performed by contract vendors. Prepare estimates for equipment repairs. Ensure equipment assigned to Unit 071 is properly maintained. Complete preventive maintenance and building inspection forms and conduct safety meetings. Prepare planning and evaluation sessions for the Performance Evaluation System (PES). Assists in conducting interviews and recommend individuals for new hires and promotions. May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities
