Job Description
Position Overview The Exhibits and Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance, repair, and overall care of the Museum's building, grounds, and interactive exhibits to ensure they are safe, functional, and visually engaging. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a welcoming environment and ensuring exhibits operate smoothly for visitors every day. The Manager works collaboratively with the Museum's leadership and program teams to install, maintain, modify, and improve exhibits while overseeing facility systems and preventative maintenance. This position helps ensure the Museum remains a high-quality, safe, and engaging place for children and families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facility Maintenance & Building Systems Assist with overseeing the maintenance and repair of the building, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and security systems Ensure the facility, grounds, and public spaces are well maintained, safe, and operational Coordinate building repairs and improvements as needed Exhibit Installation & Maintenance Manage the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of exhibits and interactive displays Ensure exhibits remain operational, safe, visually appealing, and in good working order Respond promptly to exhibit malfunctions and coordinate repairs to minimize disruption Work closely with administrative and exhibit team to create, install, modify, or repair exhibits aligned with museum standards and visitor experience goals Preventative Maintenance & Safety Create and implement routine and preventative maintenance schedules for both the building and exhibits Help ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and health standards Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and address them proactively Vendor & Contractor Coordination Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, renovations, or exhibit installations Ensure projects are completed on time and in a cost-effective manner Budget & Resource Management Develop and manage budgets related to building maintenance and exhibit upkeep Monitor and control costs associated with repairs, upgrades, and installations Visitor Experience Support Ensure the building and exhibits are well maintained, visually appealing, and engaging for visitors Support a positive and safe experience for children, families, and staff Recordkeeping & Reporting Maintain records of maintenance work, inspections, repairs, and safety compliance Provide updates and reports to leadership on facility conditions and needs Capital Projects & Improvements Assist with larger capital improvement projects, renovations, and exhibit upgrades as needed Support project coordination to ensure goals are met on time and within budget Assist with grant applications, including gathering materials, documenting projects, and preparing reporting as requested Support reporting and documentation for grants related to facilities, exhibits, and capital improvements Team Collaboration & Leadership Model positive leadership and collaboration across teams Represent the Museum professionally and promote a commitment to excellence Supervise interns and volunteers supporting maintenance or exhibit projects Additional Responsibilities Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director Support overall museum operations as needed
Qualifications Required:
Experience in facility and exhibit maintenance, including building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical Knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to perform or oversee repairs and troubleshooting Working knowledge of power and hand tools, fabrication, and basic repair skills Experience managing projects such as exhibit installations, renovations, or facility improvements Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Familiarity with safety regulations, building codes, and compliance standards Strong communication and collaboration skills Attention to detail when inspecting and maintaining exhibits and facility spaces Experience managing budgets related to maintenance or projects Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, email, and maintenance tracking systems High school diploma or GED required
Preferred:
Certifications related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other relevant technical qualifications Experience with design software such as CAD, 3D modeling, or graphic design Experience in early childhood learning environments or children's museums Creative or exhibit design experience Physical & Work Environment Active role requiring walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and frequent movement throughout the Museum. Employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Work occasionally in confined spaces and outdoors. High-energy environment with regular interaction with children, families, and staff.
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
