Head of Facilities Catholic Diocese of Lansing Flint, MI Job Details 1 day ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Powers Catholic High School in Flint is seeking a Head of Facilities. This position reports to the President of Powers and is an exempt position.
Position Summary:
The Head of Facilities is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of all Powers Catholic High School buildings and grounds. This position oversees HVAC, electrical, plumbing, custodial, environmental, safety, and security functions to ensure that all facilities operate effectively and support the mission of the school. The role includes planning and overseeing major maintenance projects including during school downtime such as winter, spring, and summer breaks to ensure significant repairs and improvements are completed efficiently . The Head of Facilities must demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with administration and committees and adhering to business practices consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Manages and performs all work related to the maintenance of campus buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, custodial, and security systems. Oversees all school downtime maintenance projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating major repairs or improvements during school breaks or other low occupancy periods. Regularly inspects campus property and completes the required Semi Annual Inspection. Maintains equipment by monitoring performance, conducting required testing, and keeping accurate repair and maintenance records. Performs repairs and assists with installations, renovations, and facility improvements. Ensures buildings meet all applicable building code and safety requirements. Maintains and updates the School Asbestos Management Book, Fire Alarm systems, and Fire Suppression systems. Contracted Services & Vendor Management Requests and evaluates contract proposals for maintenance related services (e.g., lawn care, snow removal, specialized repairs). Supervises contractors and vendors and maintains positive working relationships to ensure efficient facility operations. Safety, Compliance & Security Implements procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials. Ensures compliance with MIOSHA regulations and maintains Safety Data Sheets. Works with school administration to maintain building security and conduct safety drills. Ensures compliance with all diocesan policies related to facilities. Meetings & Administrative Responsibilities Attends Building & Grounds meeting and Administration meetings as required. (both positions) Works with the President/Principal to report problems, propose solutions, and provide cost estimates. Serves as the primary contact for facility related emergencies, including evenings and weekends. Performs other project based duties as assigned by the President/Principal. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal skills and familiarity with the Church as an organization; able to collaborate effectively with administration, staff, and committees. Self motivated and service oriented. Able to work independently without direct supervision. Strong project coordination and organizational skills. Demonstrated craftsmanship and hands on maintenance ability. Minimum 2 years' experience with maintenance tools, equipment, and procedures. Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher). High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum 2 years' experience in facilities management and staff supervision preferred. Ability to safely lift 70 lbs., bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders. Must meet all diocesan employment requirements. Practicing Catholic preferred. The above statements describe the general nature and level of work of the position.
