Church Maintenance Manager - First United Methodist Church of Northville First United Methodist Church of Northville Northville, MI Job Details Part-time $20 - $25 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications Regulatory inspections Minor electrical repair Construction painting Maintenance Minor plumbing repair Emergency response readiness Power tools Local building codes Hand tools Full Job Description Overview FUMC Northville is seeking a dependable, skilled part-time Church Maintenance Manager to oversee the care, upkeep, and safety of our facility and grounds. This hands-on role balances direct repair work with administrative coordination, ensuring our church remains a welcoming, functional, and safe environment for worship and community ministry and supports an environment where we work to help people find, experience, and share God's love through Jesus Christ. Duties Facility Maintenance & Hands-On Repair Perform routine facility maintenance and minor technical repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, lighting, painting, and drywall patching. Monitor, troubleshoot, and perform basic preventative maintenance on commercial building systems (HVAC filters, minor plumbing leaks, basic lock hardware). Manage a regular facility walkthrough checklist to identify and proactively resolve safety hazards, aesthetic issues, or wear-and-tear. Routinely check that secured doors close properly and that all exit signs, emergency lights, and fire systems are in proper working condition Respond to emergencies and escalate to Business Manager and/or Trustees Vendor Management & Administrative Oversight Serve as the main point of contact to schedule, coordinate, and supervise external licensed contractors for highly specialized trades and required inspections (e.g., roofers, elevators, fire suppression testing, large HVAC units). Keep highly accurate records of facility work orders, safety compliance certifications, inspections, and warranties. Manage inventories for maintenance, janitorial, and facilities supplies, staying within the approved annual operating budget. Grounds & Ministry Event Support HVAC external cleaning. Collaborate with administrative and ministry leaders and custodians, as needed, to support room setups, multi-use furniture configurations, and teardowns.
Required Skills & Qualifications Experience :
3+ years of proven, practical experience in commercial facility maintenance, properties management, or a physical construction trade.
Technical Knowledge :
Strong mechanical aptitude with functional knowledge of basic building codes, hand/power tools, OSHA safety guidelines, and emergency shut-off sequences.
Soft Skills :
Excellent time-management skills to prioritize multiple small-scale projects independently while communicating respectfully with clergy, volunteers, church members, and visitors. Cheerful and calm disposition, especially when emergencies arise.
Physical Demands :
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb tall ladders, walk, stretch, crawl, bend or reach frequently throughout the workday, as needed.
Background Check:
In compliance with our Safe Sanctuaries policy, FUMC staff members will have yearly background screening. This background screening will be done upon hiring.
