The Maintenance Manager directs the activities of the hourly work force in the maintenance department. Under the direction of the plant manager, the Maintenance Manager works closely with the Operations Manager to insure regular machine maintenance with minimal loss of production time and the most economical cost. Assure maximum safety and plant utilization of machines, equipment, and facilities. The position is based in Roseville, MI.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Maintenance Manager has the authority to direct the work efforts of all hourly employees assigned to his/her area. The Maintenance Manager can make the decision to terminate an employee after consultation with the plant manager and human resource manager. The Manager is involved in the hiring of employees when openings occur or when the plant manager approves additions to the department.
  • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the quality of repairs, application methods, scheduling of work, determination of malfunctions and extent and nature of repairs and type of materials or parts needed.
  • Supervises the efforts of the janitorial staff on all shifts to ensure proper facilities maintenance and support for plant housekeeping efforts.
  • The Maintenance Manager will coordinate the preventative maintenance program as to its mechanical and electrical aspects, as well as lubrication and periodic inspections.
  • Coordinates the activities of contractors, factory representatives and others engaged in repairing, overhauling and rebuilding of special or highly intricate and precise machinery.
  • Maintains compliance with Company policy and OSHA regulations.
  • The Maintenance Manager participates in administration of employee relations programs such as communications, apprentice and job training, safety programs, and all those things that have to do with the ongoing development of employees (training, vacation scheduling, evaluation and job appraisal, selection for advancement) which maintain harmonious relations between the employee and management.
  • The Maintenance Manager exercises appropriate discipline, awards recognition and cares for the morale of employees.
  • The Maintenance Manager assumes responsibility for accurate diagnosis of machine problems, machine malfunction, etc. to expedite and coordinate corrective action.
  • Makes recommendations to hire employees to maintain an adequate work force.
  • Plans and implements action plans for continuous improvements in accordance with the direction given by the plant manager.
  • Treats all employees with dignity and respect. Conducts performance reviews in a timely manner (at least once a year).
  • Practices safe driving skills with regard to the handling of a powered industrial truck and maintains a current powered industrial truck license.
  • Other duties as needed at the discretion of the Plant Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have well developed organizational skills and understanding of computer data base and word processing programs.
  • The position requires the ability to manage people, to be self-directed and capable of managing projects. Most helpful is knowledge of stamping technology, metallurgy, coatings and tool repair.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the automotive industry and manufacturing processes. A good command of writing skills is needed along with excellent oral communication skills.
  • Must maintain the respect of a diverse group of people ranging from customers, sales staff, suppliers and plant personnel. This demands the highest standards of professionalism and absolute credibility in the eyes of these people.
  • General physical requirements include ability to move freely from building to building, including ability to drive an automobile. The ability to communicate is essential.
  • Analytical skills combined with technical knowledge will make it possible to lead problem solving efforts, planning of launches for new tooling and provide advice on upcoming projects.
  • Analysis and decisiveness are essential.
  • The normal time commitment would be greater than a forty hour work week.
Some travel may be necessary in order to deal with customers and tooling suppliers. Weekend work may necessary.
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Must have a good gasp of the nature of manufacturing methods, welding technology, and stamping press operation.
  • This person must be able to communicate well on mechanical and electrical situations with others.
  • The Maintenance Manager must be able to direct employees in diagnostic and problem solving areas.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Powered Industrial Truck License (Mandated by MIOSHA Standard Part 21) in all necessary equipment to perform job duties.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
  • The minimal level is a high school education with proven skills in machine repair.
  • The preferred level of education would be an associate's degree in machine repair or machine technology.
  • The required level of experience would be at lease five years in a mechanical and electrical field.
  • The preferred level of experience would be at least ten years in a mechanical and electrical management position.
