Job Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Maintenance Superintendent to oversee the maintenance operations of our sawmill facility. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of all machinery, equipment, and facilities to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. The Maintenance Superintendent will lead a team of maintenance personnel, implement preventive maintenance programs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
Supervise and manage the maintenance team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective performance.
Maintenance Management:
Oversee the daily maintenance activities, ensuring that machinery, equipment, and plant systems are functioning optimally and safely.
Preventive Maintenance:
Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce breakdowns, extend equipment life, and improve production uptime.
Troubleshooting & Repairs:
Lead the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of critical sawmill equipment, including saws, conveyors, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies. Promote a safety-first culture within the team.
Inventory Management:
Manage spare parts and supplies inventory to ensure availability and cost-effective procurement.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify areas for improvement in maintenance practices and equipment performance, working with the plant manager to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Budget Management:
Assist in preparing and managing the maintenance department's budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring cost control.
Collaboration:
Work closely with production, engineering, and operations teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize disruptions to production.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and logs for compliance and performance analysis.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a sawmill or similar industry.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; experience with PLCs and troubleshooting automated systems.
Leadership:
Proven experience in managing and leading maintenance teams, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop staff.
Problem-Solving:
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to address complex mechanical and electrical issues quickly and effectively.
Safety:
In-depth understanding of workplace safety standards and regulations in an industrial environment.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with maintenance management software (CMMS), Microsoft Office, and basic knowledge of inventory control systems.
Desired Skills:
Project Management:
Experience with managing projects, timelines, and coordinating resources.
Sawmill Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with sawmill equipment, operations, and maintenance requirements.
Certifications:
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., OSHA, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma) are an asset.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods. Ability to work in challenging environments, including exposure to noise, heat, and heavy equipment.
