Regular Full-Time Job Summary The Ice Operations Supervisor & Maintenance Lead / Zamboni Operator is responsible for maintaining high-quality, game-ready ice surfaces and ensuring the safe, efficient operation of all ice resurfacing equipment and facility systems. This is a working leadership role that combines hands-on ice maintenance, equipment operation, and facility upkeep with supervisory and administrative responsibilities. Core Responsibilities 1. Ice Surface & Resurfacing Operations Operate ice resurfacing machines (Zamboni/Olympia) safely and efficiently to maintain professional-quality ice Manage resurfacing schedules for multiple ice sheets, ensuring smooth transitions between events (hockey, figure skating, public sessions, etc.) Monitor ice conditions continuously and perform edging, chipping, and repairs as needed Conduct and log ice depth measurements, resurfacing reports, and maintenance records Assist with installation and removal of ice, including painting lines and logos Inspect ice during events and address any safety or quality concerns immediately 2. Equipment & Mechanical Systems Perform preventative maintenance on ice resurfacing equipment (blade changes, lubrication, fuel/battery systems) Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and ice-related issues Monitor refrigeration systems, compressors, chillers, and brine pumps to maintain optimal ice conditions Conduct air quality testing (CO/NO2) and manage dehumidification systems Maintain all ice maintenance tools (edgers, shovels, chippers, etc.) 3. Facility Maintenance & Operations Perform general building maintenance (plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, flooring, locker rooms, restrooms) Inspect, clean, and repair dasher boards, glass, gates, and related rink equipment Ensure cleanliness of rink areas, locker rooms, public spaces, and work areas Maintain organized and safe workspaces (Zamboni room, storage areas, etc.) Set up and remove hockey and event-related equipment 4. Supervisory & Administrative Duties Recruit, train, and supervise part-time ice technicians and operators Schedule staff to ensure full facility coverage (including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays) Maintain safety compliance, SDS documentation, and emergency response readiness Track inventory and order supplies (ice melt, fuel, parts, PPE, etc.) Maintain accurate logs of maintenance, ice conditions, and mechanical systems Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required 3-5 years of experience in ice rink operations or ice maintenance preferred 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role preferred Proven experience operating ice resurfacing equipment (Zamboni preferred) Valid driver's license with a clean record Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Preferred Qualifications Certified Ice Technician (CIT) or similar certification Knowledge of refrigeration systems (R-22/R-23 or equivalent) Experience with facility scheduling or maintenance software Background in general building maintenance (electrical, plumbing, carpentry) Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks Comfortable working on ice and in cold environments (35-60°F) Ability to skate preferred, but walk/move quickly on ice surfaces in shoes safely required Exposure to mechanical equipment, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures Flexible availability for a 24/7 operation, including on-call responsibilitiesCompensation & Benefits Pay Range:
Ice Ops Supervisor/ Maint. Lead- Approximately $20
- 25/hour or annualized at $42,000
- 52,000 to start (Based on experience) Benefits may include health stipend and professional development opportunities Discounts in building
