The qualified and chosen person will perform at a high level in the following role:
JOB SUMMARY
The Service Manager(SM) is an exempt employee responsible to the General Manager. The SM is to ensure that Route Service Representatives (RSR) under their supervision strive to provide complete and total satisfaction to our customers with regard to products and services offered by this company. This is accomplished by adhering to the job tasks and responsibilities outlined in the job description below and being intimately familiar with the RSR job description.
HOURS OF WORK
The SM generally works 8 or more hours per day, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. The day generally begins at approximately 6 AM. Working extra hours is an element of this job.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The SM is a mid-level management position reporting to the General Manager.
AUTHORITY
The SM is granted authority to perform the tasks and duties outlined in this job description by the General Manager in the assigned service area.
WORKING CONDITIONS

General:
The SM is expected to work in a variety of conditions, standing on their feet or seated while operating a service vehicle. Repetitive bending at the waist, twisting at the waist and shoulders, and reaching at or above the shoulders while loading and unloading the service vehicle and servicing accounts are functions of this job. The RS may be required to ascend and descend staircases while carrying bundles of linen, mats, mops, soil bags, and hanging garments, etc.
Lifting:
Moderate to heavy lifting not more than one 100 pounds is a function of this job. Single floor mats may weigh in excess of 20 pounds each. Filled soil bags average 60 pounds each, with some weighing as much as 90 pounds or more.
Push/Pull:
Pushing, pulling and tipping rolling carts or metal racks carrying weight in excess of 600 pounds on improved and unimproved surfaces, and on dry, wet, or ice and snow-covered surfaces is a function of this job. (Empty metal racks weigh approximately 130 pounds.)
Weather and Temperature:
The SM is expected to work in all weather and precipitation conditions. Temperature extremes may range from below zero degrees F in winter and in excess of 100 degrees F in summer. Humidity is generally moderate to high.
ESENTIAL FUNTIONS PERFORMED
1. The SM must present a positive appearance consistent with published company grooming standards. 2. The SM must demonstrate acceptable conduct that reflects favorably upon themselves and the company. 3. The SM must participate in all service department or related company meetings. 4. The SM must participate in all service department or related training functions. 5. The SM must participate in all service department contest and incentive programs. 6. The SM must observe and comply with all company safety and health policies and procedures. 7. The SM must competently and safely operate an assigned motorized service vehicle in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and the company fleet management policy. This include insuring the vehicle is current with all scheduled maintenance, is clean and free of workplace hazards, has all appropriate motor vehicle documentation, is properly equipped and supplied with appropriate safety equipment and supplies, perform a daily vehicle safety inspection, and report any discrepancies to the General Manager. 8. Insure the employees under supervision understand and comply with all appropriate company policies and procedures, both written and issued orally by management. 9. Administer the company's corrective action policies within management guidelines for managers and supervisors. 10. The SM may be required to substitute at other job positions as operational requirements dictate. 11. The SM may be assigned other duties or tasked as necessary by a supervisor or manager.
CUSTOMER RELATIONS
(20%) 1. The SM must successfully and with courtesy interact daily with client management in regard to the performance of account goodwill calls. 2. Complete 10 Goodwill Calls per week on designated customer accounts meeting minimum weekly revenue benchmarks. 3. Present informational seminars to customer employees on a variety of product and service related topics. 4. Communicate directly or by telephone with customer contacts to resolve product or service related issues designated to them by their supervisor via the "Customer Service Call" system. 5. Participate in occasional social events sponsored in behalf of customers or prospective customers in support of the company's marketing efforts. 6. Participate in new customer installations.
RSR CHECKIN ACTIVITIES
(20%) 1. Meet with each RSR at daily check-in to insure daily paperwork and route documentation is performed properly. 2. Communicate any new product or service related information appropriate to the RSR. 3. Follow-up on customer account performance review action plans. 4. Review status of "hot" accounts requiring special service or handling. 5. Perform sales and business growth review. 6. Develop route skills as appropriate using mentoring and coaching techniques. 7. Review Customer Service Call Log reports. 8. Review progress with A/R check pick-up activities.
TRAINING AND ROUTE RIDE-A-LONG RSR INSTRUCTION
(40%) 1. Perform initial RSR classroom and on-the-Job training; refresher training and remedial training as necessary. 2. Perform scheduled quarterly route ride-a-long with each RSR. Focus attention on customer relationship development and execution of company standard operating procedures and other appropriate policies. 3. Develop route skills as appropriate using mentoring and coaching techniques. 4. Prepare route ride-a-long evaluation form upon completion of trip. Review with
RSR. CUSTOMER LOCATION FULL-ACCOUNT INVENTORIES
(20%) 1. Conduct a quarterly on-site physical product inventory of all accounts with weekly revenue at or above a threshold determined by management.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Age:
At least 21 years of age (Required for auto insurance coverage).
Personality:
Friendly and outgoing with a dedicated professional attitude and strong positive work ethic.
Interaction:
Effectively communicate orally in English. Must be able to read and write effectively in English.
Certification:
The SM must hold and maintain the appropriate commercial driver's license for the classification of vehicle assigned.
Experience:
Minimum one-year experience in sales, service, delivery, or as a company RSR, and one-year effective supervisory experience or its equivalent.
Computer:
Must have operational knowledge of a Windows based PC. Microsoft Office component skills is preferred, especially MS Outlook.
Training:
The SM normally receives two to three weeks on-the-job training to become familiar with SM responsibilities and tasks. Additional training in selected safety and operational topics is provided from time-to-time.
Drug Testing:
The SM must pass a pre-employment drug test and is subject to "for cause", "reasonable suspicion", "post accident/injury", "random" (DOT only), and other drug and alcohol tests as specified in company policy during the course of employment.
Physical Examinations:
The SM is subject to pre-employment physical examinations, fitness-for-duty examinations, and/or DOT physical certification and recertification as required by law.
