Job Description

Sykes Industries is seeking a highly motivated Facilities & Maintenance Manager to oversee and complete improvement projects across our portfolio of businesses and properties. This is a hands-on position. While the role includes planning projects, identifying maintenance needs, coordinating occasional outside contractors, and helping prioritize work, the majority of the work will be performed by you. We are looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, solving problems, and taking pride in improving properties and facilities. This is not a desk job and it is not a position focused solely on managing others. The ideal candidate is a skilled trades professional who is comfortable painting a building, remodeling a bathroom, installing doors and trim, troubleshooting maintenance issues, towing a trailer, operating equipment, and seeing projects through from start to finish. Sykes Industries oversees several local businesses and real estate holdings, including commercial properties, a marina, a boat dealership, and apartment communities. No two days are the same, and the right candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. Responsibilities Complete hands-on property improvement and maintenance projects Interior and exterior painting, including pressure washing, surface preparation, caulking, and finish work General carpentry including doors, trim, hardware, fixtures, and finish work Basic plumbing and electrical repairs Apartment maintenance and turnover projects Assist with remodeling and renovation projects Perform preventative maintenance at commercial and residential properties Tow trailers and haul equipment and materials Operate skid steers, man lifts, and other equipment as needed Identify maintenance and improvement opportunities and recommend solutions Coordinate contractors when specialized work is required Maintain high standards of appearance and functionality across all properties Current Projects Include Exterior painting and building improvement projects Building preparation including pressure washing, scraping, caulking, and surface repairs Bathroom remodels and interior improvements Ongoing apartment maintenance and tenant turnover work General property upgrades and preventative maintenance Qualifications Experience in construction, remodeling, maintenance, or skilled trades Strong working knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, and basic electrical systems Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license and clean driving record Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical work throughout the day Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions Preferred Qualifications Experience with metal building construction Experience installing and repairing steel siding and metal roofing systems Experience operating skid steers, man lifts, forklifts, or similar equipment Experience towing trailers and hauling materials Experience with residential and commercial property maintenance Ability to manage projects from planning through completion What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who notices what needs to be done and takes initiative. Someone who can walk a property, identify opportunities for improvement, discuss them with ownership, and then take ownership of completing the work. This is a working position, not a supervisory office role. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in completing projects themselves. While additional labor, contractors, and specialty trades may be brought in when appropriate, this position is expected to personally perform much of the maintenance, repair, and improvement work across our properties. Retired contractors, retired maintenance supervisors, and experienced trades professionals looking for flexible hours are encouraged to apply. Compensation Competitive hourly pay based on experience. Part-time to start, with the opportunity to grow into a larger role for the right individual. To apply, please submit your resume along with a brief description of your experience in construction, maintenance, remodeling, or related trades.
