Job Description
This position is responsible for managing the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets.
- Develops, plans, directs and provides technical assistance for the maintenance and repair of city streets.
- Prepares and plans work schedules for daily and seasonal operations.
- Investigates complaints from the general public.
- Ensures compliance with safety procedures.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the annual budget.
- Assists in the preparation of equipment specifications and assists in the identification and articulation of long-range equipment needs.
- Supervises skilled and semi-skilled employees in construction, maintenance and labor work as needed.
- Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a 4-year degree in a course study related to the occupational field or 5-years of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require five years of related experience.
- Proof of satisfactory performance in previous employment is required.
- Possession, or the ability to obtain, a valid North Dakota driver's license. Must be able to obtain a North Dakota Class A or B CDL within one year of employment.
- Knowledge of modern principles of street maintenance.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and of local ordinances.
- Knowledge of safe work standards and practices.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the operation of a variety of maintenance equipment such as loaders, backhoes, and graders.
- Skill in management and supervision.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
