For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu . Raritan Valley Community College currently has an anticipated opening for a Lead Maintenance Mechanic in the Facilities & Grounds department. Under direction of the Building & Grounds Manager, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic performs varied maintenance work involving mechanical repairs, utilities repairs and electrical repairs. Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems, apparatuses, and electronic control components of the facility.
Essential Duties:
Diagnoses and repairs the cause of electric and control malfunction of equipment, such as programmable controllers, transformers, relays, switches, transmitters and control of monitoring devices. Installs new electrical equipment as required. Properly uses electrical test equipment and other tools. Keeps department leadership fully informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment and current job progress in relation to facilities operations. Performs the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, performing preventative or corrective maintenance. Writes, submits and completes work orders, as necessary. Repairs and maintains, in accordance with plans, operational manuals and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic controls and other related equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Repair and replace lights, switches, outlets, circuit breakers and other related electrical work. Maintain building utility systems, such as electrical wiring and control systems, heating, ventilating, water supply, steam generating, related power systems and refrigeration equipment of power plant and other buildings. Perform plumbing repair and installation, including fittings and fixtures for heating, domestic water, gas and drainage systems according to specification and plumbing codes. Coordinates and directs outside contractors as required to complete projects. Performs capital project and major program responsibilities as assigned by the department leadership. Understand and comply with all facility safety and regulatory procedures. Assist in campus-wide emergencies, including snow removal and tree removal. Perform other duties as assigned. High School diploma or GED required. 3-5 years of experience in central plant operations. Formal training and experience in electrical, HVAC and plumbing trades. Black Seal License or ability to obtain a license within 12 months. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess knowledge of all facets of plant operations. Must possess ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, write routine reports, solve practical issues, and make competent decisions in emergency situations. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:
Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, kneeling and climbing. Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for a distance of 50 feet. Requires handling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds while pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and reaching while lifting.
