Maintenance Supervisor Job Description The Maintenance Supervisor leads and motivates a diverse maintenance team in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment to ensure equipment reliability, environmental protection, and operational sustainability. This is a first-shift, hands-on working supervisor role, where you work alongside the team, collaborate closely with production, and ensure maintenance issues are addressed safely, efficiently, and with a strong focus on continuous improvement and minimizing downtime. Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and delegate day-to-day maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner. Work hands-on with the maintenance team to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective countermeasures. Ensure accurate and timely completion of work orders in the CMMS, capturing work details, labor hours, and parts used each day. Plan work schedules and assignments to ensure all equipment is serviced within specified maintenance guidelines and preventive maintenance schedules. Drive effective resolution of maintenance issues and recommend improvements to machine and equipment conditions and overall operations. Maintain strong communication with the team to promote continuous improvement, safe work practices, and root cause analysis. Supervise and manage outside trades and contractors in accordance with contractor management guidelines. Follow up on repairs by auditing staff and contractors to ensure quality, completeness, and adherence to standards. Meet and exceed downtime targets by optimizing repair processes and maintenance of equipment. Lead daily shift handoff meetings and ensure objectives and action items are clearly communicated and met. Collaborate with the Maintenance Planner and Operations to plan and execute tasks that reduce production interruptions. Oversee, maintain, and continuously improve the preventive maintenance program. Ensure shop cleanliness and organization (5S) is maintained as a high priority for all crews. Draft and conduct regular performance reviews for maintenance team members. Proactively identify and address team performance concerns and manage the effective resolution of conflicts. Monitor and manage shop tools, parts, and materials to ensure appropriate resources are available to expedite repairs. Support the development of a strong maintenance team through on-the-job training, course recommendations, and ongoing coaching and mentoring. Participate in equipment reviews and design changes to improve reliability, safety, and maintainability. Apply company policies and practices in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner. Ensure the plant has 24/7 maintenance coverage and be available after hours for support when needed. Schedule, monitor, and approve employee hours in the timekeeping system, ensuring all time is processed accurately and on time for payroll. Participate actively in plant safety, health, and environmental programs and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Essential Skills At least 10 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Minimum 3 years of experience in a lead hand, supervisory, or management role within maintenance. Proven experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for issuing and tracking work orders and scheduling preventive maintenance. Strong background in maintenance supervision and maintenance management in a heavy industrial setting. Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical repairs. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment, including electrical troubleshooting. Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and fluid power components, welding, and PLCs, including basic PLC troubleshooting. Experience as a millwright or in industrial maintenance with a strong mechanical aptitude. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and coach a maintenance team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Proven ability to problem-solve effectively and make sound, independent decisions under time pressure. Ability to plan, develop, and implement methods and procedures to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and increase utilization of labor and materials. Familiarity and conformance with legislated requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) or similar safety regulations. Work Environment This role is based on a first-shift schedule, Monday to Friday, from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will work in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment that is non-climate-controlled, where conditions can vary with the seasons. The facility is in the process of being brought back to full operation, so you will be part of a team focused on restoring and improving site performance. The work involves frequent interaction with production equipment, tools, and machinery, and requires adherence to strict safety practices and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety footwear and safety glasses. The environment emphasizes cleanliness and organization through 5S principles and relies heavily on modern maintenance tools such as CMMS and production/productivity software to plan, track, and execute work. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cherry Hill, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
