DESCRIPTION
: As Manager of Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll manage a team responsible for ensuring optimal performance of critical manufacturing equipment. You'll develop effective maintenance strategies, implement preventive maintenance programs, and ensure regulatory compliance while minimizing equipment downtime. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer through reliable manufacturing operations. You'll work with cross-functional teams, support maintenance staff development, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance and reliability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead site-wide maintenance and utilities operations supporting aseptic fill-finish manufacturing Own reliability, availability, and lifecycle management strategies for manufacturing equipment and GMP-critical utilities Provide senior technical oversight for process utilities, including: WFI and Purified Water systems Clean steam and plant steam HVAC systems supporting classified cleanrooms and aseptic operations Compressed air, instrument air, and process gases Vacuum, thermal, and waste systems Ensure systems operate in a validated state and meet cGMP, regulatory, and Thermo Fisher quality standards Serve as a key site leader during regulatory inspections, customer audits, and quality investigations Partner with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and EHS on change control, deviations, CAPAs, and risk management Lead, develop, and scale high-performing maintenance and utilities teams in a matrix organization Drive continuous improvement, standard work, and reliability engineering principles Own maintenance and utilities budgets, capital planning input, and vendor/service provider performance Support capital project expansions
EDUCATION
Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in maintenance or engineering in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing
Preferred Fields of Study:
Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field) Professional Engineering license or skilled trades certification is an asset
REQUIREMENTS
3+ years of management experience leading technical teams Expert knowledge of cGMP requirements and regulatory standards (FDA, EMA) Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems Demonstrated experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems Demonstrated ability to develop and implement maintenance strategies and KPIs Experience managing equipment qualification and validation processes Strong project management and budget planning capabilities Effective cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Clear verbal and written communication abilities Available for on-call rotation and emergency response Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and maintenance management systems Commitment to safety and environmental health standards Ability to work in clean room environments and comply with GMP requirements Physical requirements include standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds Compensation and Benefits The salary range estimated for this position based in New Jersey is $123,800.00-$183,900.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
