Job Description
Posting Details The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. Why does the job exist? Position will devote a substantial portion of time assigning and directly supervising work of at least four (4) full time equivalent employees and conduct training of personnel. Position will operate medium to heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to maintain interstate roads, roadways and highways for the safety of the traveling public. This position is with the Ramah Patrol Yard. How does it get done? By supervising and delegating work to a crew and operating various types of medium to heavy duty equipment, maintain highways and roadways. Who are the customers? Traveling public and pedestrians. Ideal Candidate Traveling public and pedestrians. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loaders, five (5) and ten (10) yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers. Any education from an accredited college or university in a related field totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (or equivalent licenses from another state) upon hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker, and/or Hazmat endorsement. Employment Requirements This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (or equivalent licenses from another state) upon hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 75% or better. Traffic Control certified may be required within one year of hire. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow.
May include exposure to:
Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; Moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; Temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises. Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather (including snow removal), accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
