Job Description
Job Summary :
Oversee employees who are assigned to the HVAC shop and perform maintenance, inspection and alteration of University buildings and equipment. Assist with the planning of work projects and prepare cost/time estimates. Maintain direct supervision over HVAC shop and/or any other employees as assigned.Essential Functions :
40% Process and manage work orders to maintain the University's HVAC systems and equipment, including, but not limited to, heating, cooling, and other general HVAC systems. Oversee new installation, replacement or repair of system equipment. Schedule general and preventative maintenance. Order all equipment for the above work. Attend project and HVAC group meetings to help develop long-term plans for the department. Ensure compliance of all work with state and local safety codes and procedures. 30% Manage HVAC related contractors, including, but not limited to, campus HVAC repairs and installations, Energy Center installations and repairs. Visually inspect and maintain all campus HVAC equipment related to building heating and cooling systems, main loop chilled water and high temperature water systems. 15% Perform various administrative duties including preparing letters and correspondence, maintaining and preparing job records and related reports/documentation. Review and provide feedback regarding job specifications, proposals and contracts. Participate in the recruiting process by interviewing prospective employees. Maintain employee records and conduct performance evaluations. 10% Determine shop/department needs and evaluate requisitions for the purpose of controlling inventory and ordering appropriate supplies, materials, and new equipment. 5% Assist Capital Planning project managers. Attend meetings to review, consult, and coordinate activities with contractors, vendors, staff, and the campus community. Obtain quotes and bids on various jobs and materials as necessary.Additional Position Information:
Education :
Requires Associates Degree in related field or completion of designated Apprenticeship Program.Licenses/Certifications/Requirements :
Valid Ohio driver's license required. Valid and current Universal CC Licensure required. State of Ohio Contractor's License (OCILB) preferred.Experience :
Requires a minimum of 4 years experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting including 1 year of supervisory and managerial duties. Ability to train and provide effective supervision/work direction to other employees required. Ability to operate various equipment/tools and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams and perform math associated with trade applications required. Working knowledge of safety practices and codes required. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written, required. Basic budgeting, problem-solving, and moderately advanced computer skills with relevant software capabilities required. Must be detail oriented and possess reasonable level knowledge troubleshooting HVAC related equipment. Ability to address complex issues and problems through teamwork. Ability to provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May be required to work various shifts, holidays, weekends and/or overtime. May be required to respond to call-ins and emergencies.Leadership :
Direct supervision and evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor over non-exempt staff including hiring, terminating, disciplining; or functional guidance and/or project leadership over exempt staff engaged in activities of a recurring basis.Physical Requirements :
Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping; periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (over 25 lbs. - 50 lbs.).Working Conditions :
Routine discomforts from exposure to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness, noise and air pollution. May involve routine/occasional exposure to light chemical substances or hazards (radiation, chemicals, diseases, heights and moving parts).Shift Available :
Monday-Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pmCompensation :
