Food Distribution Warehouse Position Summary The Maintenance Assistant Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all warehouse facilities, equipment, and grounds within a food distribution environment. This role helps ensure compliance with food safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies while minimizing downtime and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient operation. The Maintenance Assistant Manager assists with preventive maintenance programs, vendor coordination, sanitation support, facility improvements, and supervision of maintenance personnel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance Operations Assist in managing the daily activities of the maintenance department. Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for warehouse equipment and facility systems. Monitor and maintain refrigeration systems, HVAC units, dock equipment, conveyors, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse machinery. Respond to equipment breakdowns and facility emergencies promptly to minimize operational disruptions. Ensure all repairs are completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. Team Leadership Assist with scheduling, training, and supervising maintenance technicians. Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to maintenance staff. Help establish priorities and assign daily work orders. Promote accountability and continuous improvement within the maintenance team. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Maintain compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA, and local health department requirements. Support food safety initiatives, inspections, and audits. Ensure maintenance activities do not compromise food safety standards. Maintain proper documentation of maintenance records and compliance activities. Facility & Equipment Management Conduct routine inspections of warehouse facilities and equipment. Identify and address potential safety hazards. Coordinate building repairs, lighting maintenance, plumbing issues, and grounds upkeep. Assist with capital improvement projects and facility upgrades. Inventory & Purchasing Monitor maintenance supply inventory levels. Assist with ordering parts, tools, and equipment. Maintain relationships with outside vendors and service contractors. Help control maintenance expenses and stay within departmental budgets. Safety Responsibilities Enforce all company safety policies and procedures. Conduct safety inspections and corrective actions. Participate in accident investigations and root cause analysis. Promote a culture of workplace safety throughout the facility. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work orders. Track equipment performance and maintenance history. Prepare reports regarding maintenance activities, downtime, and department performance. Assist with budget planning and expense tracking. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. Experience 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a warehouse, food distribution, manufacturing, or cold storage environment. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Experience with refrigeration systems, electrical systems, mechanical repairs, and facility maintenance strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs. Understanding of OSHA regulations and food safety standards. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and facility issues. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent communication and organizational abilities. Proficiency with maintenance management software and Microsoft Office. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated and freezer environments. Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment. Work Environment This position operates in a food distribution warehouse environment that may include refrigerated, freezer, and ambient storage areas. The Maintenance Assistant Manager must be available to support operations during evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations as needed.
Compensation Salary Range:
$40,000 - $50,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated performance. Eligible for company benefits in accordance with company policies. Opportunities for professional development and advancement within the organization.
Work Schedule Expected Work Week:
45 hours per week. Typical schedule will consist of five workdays per week with flexibility based on operational needs. Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency call-ins when necessary to support warehouse operations and equipment uptime. Position may require occasional overtime during peak business periods, facility projects, or equipment emergencies. Position Expectations The Maintenance Assistant Manager is expected to maintain a strong presence on the warehouse floor, actively support the maintenance team, and ensure that all facility and equipment issues are addressed promptly. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance administrative responsibilities with daily operational support while maintaining food safety, employee safety, and facility appearance standards.
Compensation:
$40,000 - $50,000 annually

Upon hire or promotion into the position. The Maintenance Assistant Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all food safety and regulatory standards while supporting the overall success of warehouse operations.
