There is a pay differential of $1.16/hour as this position works nights
Job Appointment :
Regular, Full-time Typical Schedule:
4 10-hour shifts, Sunday through Wednesday, 7:00 pm to 5:30 am

Position:
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is hiring for a Night Operations Supervisor for the Street Cleaning Section within the Operations Division. This position will oversee field crews performing a range of maintenance projects and tasks as part of Maintenance Operations. General tasks include street sweeping, bridges and overpass cleaning, anti-icing in winter months, hazard/safety mitigation as needed. The incumbent is considered an essential employee and is a member of the bureau's 24-hour response team that may require after-hour, evening, weekend, and holiday emergency response. As a Maintenance Supervisor I, you will: Supervise and evaluate crews and the work they are involved in. The supervisor is directly responsible for ensuring the safety of their staff and the public Meet program targets, complying with city standards, and guarantee overall quality control Track labor, materials, equipment, and other resources to manage costs and be efficient Communicate with stakeholders when work is going to be done in their area Coordinate with other maintenance operations work groups, other bureaus, utilities, and other entities who perform work in the right-of-way Lead emergency response crews during inclement weather events and disasters Lead projects, programs, and city-wide initiatives Keep up with industry trends and advancements Attend meetings, as needed, for different groups to plan and discuss projects, equipment, processes, and practices Assist other bureaus when our group is the subject matter expert for a given need Visit crews in the field to supervise and perform safety and work quality assessments Adjust and shift schedules for crew members and equipment to accommodate current and future needs Complete administrative tasks for staff payroll, performance management, training, and development Interact with staff daily to keep them engaged and informed, providing coaching and guidance as needed. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position : Ability to lead teams in maintenance, repair, and/or operation of municipal public work utilities or a similar field. Knowledge of safe, efficient, and effective equipment use in the street cleaning operations for a municipal public works utility or related field. Experience in supervisory techniques, including fostering a performance- and service-oriented work environment, coaching employees for development and improvement, and recommending disciplinary action when appropriate. Experience in strong business communications, including the ability to prepare clear and concise written materials, such as records, reports, and correspondence. Experience planning, organizing, and allocating both short- and long-term work for maintenance crews or similar teams. Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders such as homeowners, contractors, outside agencies, volunteer groups, and internal working partners.
Applicant must also possess:
A valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record at the time of hire Passing a pre-employment drug test at the time of hire An Ideal Candidate for the individual positions will have the following skillsets:
Night Operations Supervisor:
Assess, plan, and organize street cleaning and vegetation management programs, including street sweeping, water truck flushing, debris hauling/disposal, and anti-icing application (winter weather activity) A strong background in cleaning public streets, vegetation management equipment, and the use of GPS tracking and GIS mapping systems is desired.
