Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance functions while ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, chemical processing systems, and facility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Supervise, train, and develop maintenance technicians Establish clear priorities aligned with production schedules and safety requirements Conduct performance evaluations and enforce accountability Lead emergency response efforts for equipment or system failures Maintenance Operations Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for: Plating lines and anodizing systems Chemical tanks, pumps, and filtration systems Ventilation, exhaust, and fume scrubber systems Wastewater treatment systems Ensure rapid response to breakdowns to minimize production downtime Maintain accurate maintenance logs, calibration records, and repair documentation Equipment & Systems Management Ensure proper operation of critical systems including: Rectifiers and electrical distribution systems Hoists, conveyors, and automated line controls Steam lines, boilers, and heating systems Air compressors and process piping Coordinate installation, upgrades, and modifications of production equipment Maintain spare parts inventory for critical components Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations Maintain safe operation of ventilation systems to control chemical exposure (e.g., chromates, acids, nickel solutions) Enforce PPE requirements and safe maintenance practices Support incident investigations involving chemical exposure or equipment failure Regulatory & Quality Compliance Support compliance with ISO 9001 and NADCAP requirements Maintain documentation for audits, including maintenance records and calibration logs Ensure equipment is maintained to meet process control and quality standards Participate in internal and external audits Budgeting & Vendor Management Develop and manage the maintenance budget Control costs related to repairs, parts, and outside services Manage relationships with external contractors and service providers Evaluate and approve equipment purchases and service contracts Continuous Improvement & Reliability Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and process interruptions Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices Improve system efficiency, uptime, and safety performance Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement Qualifications Education & Experience Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or related field preferred 5-10 years of maintenance experience in metal finishing, chemical processing, or manufacturing 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of: Chemical processing equipment and plating systems Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems PLCs, controls, and automation systems Ventilation and environmental control systems Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning Understanding of corrosion, chemical compatibility, and industrial coatings processes Leadership & Soft Skills Strong leadership and team development skills Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage high-pressure situations and emergency repairs Effective communication across production, quality, and management teams Working Conditions Industrial metal finishing environment with exposure to: Chemicals (acids, chromates, nickel, etc.) Fumes, heat, and noise Requires use of PPE (respirators, gloves, eye protection, etc.) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined or elevated spaces May require off-hours, weekends, or on-call availability Key Performance Indicators Equipment uptime (plating lines, exhaust systems, wastewater systems) Preventive maintenance completion rate Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) / Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) Maintenance cost vs. budget Audit readiness Critical Success Factors Ability to prevent unplanned downtime in high-risk chemical processes Strong focus on safety and exposure prevention (especially ventilation systems) Proactive maintenance planning rather than reactive "firefighting" Cross-functional collaboration with
