Job Title:
Maintenance Planner & Inventory Controller Position Summary The Maintenance Planner & Inventory Controller is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities for a 7-person maintenance team while managing spare parts inventory to support efficient plant operations. This role is critical to improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and ensuring parts availability in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Maintenance Planning & Scheduling Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for a team of 7 technicians. Build and manage weekly maintenance schedules in Asset Essentials, coordinating closely with production to minimize downtime. Develop detailed job plans including scope, labor requirements, parts, tools, and estimated durations. Prioritize work orders based on safety, food safety, and operational impact. Maintain accurate and complete work order history and asset data within the CMMS. Drive PM compliance and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance programs. Track and report key metrics (PM completion, downtime, backlog, schedule compliance). Support planning and execution of plant shutdowns and weekend work. Inventory Control Manage all MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) spare parts inventory. Establish and maintain min/max levels and reorder points for critical spares. Ensure critical parts availability while minimizing excess inventory and carrying costs. Perform cycle counts and manage annual physical inventory. Maintain organized, labeled, and GMP-compliant parts storage areas. Track parts usage and adjust stocking strategies based on trends and equipment needs. Generate and manage purchase requisitions; work with vendors on pricing, lead times, and sourcing alternatives. Support cost control initiatives related to maintenance spending. Coordination & Communication Serve as the primary link between maintenance and production for scheduling and prioritization. Coordinate external contractors and service providers, including scheduling and site access. Communicate daily and weekly maintenance plans to stakeholders. Support continuous improvement efforts in reliability, planning efficiency, and inventory management. Ensure compliance with all safety policies, GMPs, and food safety standards. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred. 3-5+ years of experience in maintenance planning, inventory control, or industrial maintenance. Experience in food manufacturing or a regulated environment strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with Asset Essentials or similar CMMS. Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems. Skills & Competencies Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage a 7-person workload. High attention to detail, especially in scheduling and inventory accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data tracking. Ability to balance urgent maintenance needs with long-term planning. Understanding of GMPs and HACCP principles. Strong communication skills across maintenance, production, and vendors. Cost-conscious with a focus on efficiency and uptime. Working Conditions Based in a food manufacturing facility. Regular interaction with production areas (temperature variation, noise, moving equipment). Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs frequently. Ability to lift up to 25-50 lbs occasionally. Ability to access equipment and parts storage areas.
