Sumter, SC Overview:
The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and developing a team of Mechanical Technicians to ensure the reliability, performance, and continuous operation of all mechanical systems within the facility. This role plays a critical part in maintaining high-precision manufacturing equipment used in magnet production, including hydraulic presses, grinding systems, and automated production machinery. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor will drive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, support troubleshooting of complex equipment failures, and ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and operational standards. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a hands-on approach in a fast-paced, start-up manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance Enforce all safety policies and procedures, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work requirements Promote a strong safety culture through training, audits, and accountability Ensure compliance with company, state, and federal regulations Participate in safety investigations and drive corrective actions Team Leadership & Supervision Lead, coach, and supervise Mechanical Technicians across multiple shifts (Press, Grinding, Ovens and General Mechanical teams) Plan, assign, and prioritize daily maintenance activities to meet production and operational goals Provide ongoing training, mentoring, and performance feedback to develop team capability Support staffing needs, onboarding, and skill development within the maintenance team Maintenance & Equipment Reliability Oversee execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all mechanical systems Ensure reliability and performance of equipment including bearings, pumps, gearboxes, motors, belts, and precision alignment systems Develop and implement strategies to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment lifespan Partner with engineering and operations teams on continuous improvement initiatives Technical Troubleshooting Act as the primary escalation point for complex mechanical issues Diagnose and resolve failures on critical production equipment including hydraulic presses and high-speed grinding machines Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective and preventive actions Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of new equipment CMMS & Inventory Management Utilize CMMS to track work orders, maintenance history, and equipment performance Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components Work with procurement to source parts and maintain cost-effective inventory levels Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities Qualifications Associate's degree or relevant Technical Certification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology. Strong trade qualification (Journeyman, Master Electrician) is highly desirable. Experience Level Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Technician in a heavy industrial or high-speed manufacturing environment. Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership, lead technician, or supervisory role.
