Job Description

Maintenance & Facilities Director General Description The Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor provides strategic leadership and oversight for the stewardship, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness of all Open Bible Church facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all custodial, maintenance, and facility operations while supervising employees, contractors, and volunteers to ensure church facilities consistently support ministry excellence. The Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor reports to the Executive Pastor and serves as the departmental leader responsible for facility management, preventative maintenance planning, regulatory compliance, budget stewardship, and personnel supervision. While this position may occasionally assist with maintenance activities as needed, its primary responsibility is leadership, management, planning, coordination, and oversight of the Facilities Department. Experience & Education Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, maintenance operations, construction, property management, or a related field. Prior supervisory or management experience preferred. Experience managing budgets, vendors, maintenance schedules, and multiple projects simultaneously. Qualifications Growing follower of Jesus who models Christian character and integrity. Passion for serving the local church through excellent stewardship of ministry facilities. Must become a Partner of Open Bible Church of Rapid City. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Open Bible Church. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees and volunteers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining operational excellence. Servant leader committed to teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Term & Compensation This full-time salaried exempt position based upon its assigned duties and responsibilities. Compensation is determined by the Board of Directors and reviewed annually. The position is expected to devote the time necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role, including evenings, weekends, seasonal demands, emergency response, and ministry events. Primary Responsibilities 1. Facilities Leadership & Department Management Provide overall leadership for the Facilities Department. Develop departmental goals, priorities, and operational standards. Direct daily facility operations across all church buildings, grounds, and ministry spaces. Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs. Develop policies, procedures, and operational systems that improve efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, functional, and ministry ready. 2. Personnel Leadership Supervise, schedule, coach, and evaluate custodial and maintenance employees. Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers serving within facility operations. Assign work priorities and monitor productivity. Conduct regular inspections and quality assurance reviews. Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, discipline, promotion, and termination decisions for Facilities personnel, with recommendations given substantial consideration by church leadership. Approve employee schedules, leave requests, and time records. 3. Facility Operations Oversee all custodial, maintenance, repair, and grounds operations. Coordinate room setups and facility support for ministry events. Ensure preventative maintenance is completed on all building systems and equipment. Maintain operational readiness of HVAC, plumbing, lighting, security systems, and mechanical equipment through appropriate maintenance programs. Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective action. Ensure all buildings are properly secured and operational each day. 4. Capital Projects & Vendor Management Plan and coordinate facility improvement and renovation projects. Obtain bids, evaluate vendors, and oversee contractor performance. Recommend capital improvements and replacement schedules. Monitor project timelines, quality, and budget performance. Ensure contractors comply with church safety standards and applicable regulations. 5. Financial Stewardship Develop, administer, and monitor the Facilities Department operating and capital budgets. Manage departmental expenditures within approved budgets. Evaluate purchasing decisions for cost effectiveness and operational value. Maintain accurate records of warranties, maintenance history, equipment inventories, and asset life cycles. Recommend long-term facility investments that support ministry objectives. 6. Safety, Security & Regulatory Compliance Promote a safe environment for staff, volunteers, children, and guests. Coordinate inspections and maintenance necessary for regulatory compliance. Oversee fire alarm systems, emergency response procedures, and facility security practices. Ensure snow removal, ground maintenance, and exterior safety hazards are addressed promptly. Maintain documentation required for inspections, warranties, and safety records. 7. Ministry Partnership Collaborate with ministry leaders to anticipate facility needs. Review ministry calendars and coordinate facility readiness. Provide recommendations that improve operational support for church ministries. Foster a culture that views facilities ministry as an extension of hospitality and worship. 8. Other Responsibilities Perform other leadership or operational duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, or Church Operations Manager.
Pay:
$42,500.00 - $55,000.00 per year
