Job Title:
Maintenance Lead - 3rd Shift Job Description The 3rd shift Maintenance Lead oversees multi-craft maintenance activities from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. This role performs hands-on installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment while ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete. The Maintenance Lead serves as the technical resource for the shift, drives effective work execution, leads failure reporting and root cause analysis, and promotes strong communication across shifts and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Perform multi-craft maintenance technician duties, including installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment. Execute preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on AC and DC motors, pumps, sumps, gearboxes, hydraulic units, analog and digital drives, lift trucks, machinery, and industrial equipment. Safely disassemble equipment, identify and recommend necessary replacement parts, and reassemble equipment to proper operating condition. Make sound judgments on when to repair versus replace parts to ensure reliability and cost-effectiveness. Apply proven experience in hydraulics and pneumatics, including understanding of fluid power systems, to maintain and repair related equipment. Lead shift work execution by organizing tasks, prioritizing work orders, and ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently. Serve as the technical resource for maintenance during 3rd shift, providing guidance and support to resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues. Champion failure reporting and root cause analysis by documenting issues, participating in investigations, and recommending corrective and preventive actions. Support and promote continuous improvement activities focused on equipment reliability, uptime, and maintenance processes. Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required maintenance documentation, records, and reports. Use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators, as well as electrical test equipment including amp meters, ohmmeters, meggers, and voltmeters, to diagnose and verify repairs. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and electrical specifications to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems. Apply working knowledge of electrical standards and codes when installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting single-phase and three-phase wiring. Troubleshoot AC, DC, and variable frequency drives to determine root causes of malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or replacements. Utilize sound knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to troubleshoot control issues and, when needed, assist in creating or modifying programs. Perform replacement drive installations and verify proper operation after installation. Participate actively in Failure Reporting and Root Cause Analysis processes to enhance equipment reliability. Apply an understanding of reliability principles and predictive technologies to help reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life. Collaborate and communicate effectively across shifts to ensure smooth handoffs, share critical information, and maintain continuity of operations. Support a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and maintenance best practices. Essential Skills Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on AC and DC motors, pumps, sumps, gearboxes, hydraulic units, analog and digital drives, lift trucks, machinery, and industrial equipment. Demonstrated ability to safely disassemble equipment, identify and recommend replacement parts, and reassemble equipment correctly. Proven experience in hydraulics and pneumatics, including a solid understanding of fluid power systems. Strong electrical troubleshooting and electrical maintenance skills, including work with industrial equipment and controls. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and electrical specifications. Working knowledge of electrical standards and codes, with experience installing and maintaining single-phase and three-phase wiring. Understanding of AC, DC, and variable frequency drives, including how each functions and how to troubleshoot them to root cause. Sound knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) with the ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems. Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Proficiency with electrical test equipment, including amp meters, ohmmeters, meggers, voltmeters, and other basic electrical tools. Ability to participate in and contribute to failure reporting and root cause analysis processes. Understanding of reliability principles and knowledge of predictive technology and measures. Capability to perform replacement drive installations and verify correct operation. Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift (8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday) in a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Welding skills and the ability to fabricate machine parts from drawings for equipment repairs (preferred). Ability to understand and complete AutoCAD drawings is a plus. Experience with maintenance management and supervision or leading maintenance work on a shift is beneficial. Experience in continuous improvement activities related to equipment reliability and maintenance processes is advantageous. Strong communication skills to support effective information sharing across shifts. Detail-oriented approach to documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance with maintenance procedures. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility on 3rd shift, working from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The environment is non-climate-controlled, with hot working conditions in the summer typical of industrial production settings. The work involves physical labor consistent with maintenance activities in a manufacturing plant, including working around machinery, equipment, and industrial systems. The facility follows a point-based attendance system, which requires consistent and reliable attendance. Standard industrial safety practices and appropriate personal protective equipment apply in this setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fayetteville, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
