Diesel Shop Foreman Position at BFS Services Job Overview BFS Services is seeking a diesel shop foreman to oversee daily operations within the shop. This position involves supervising a team of mechanics, assigning repair tasks, and ensuring that all maintenance work adheres to quality and safety standards. Acting as a technical liaison between management and shop personnel, the foreman is responsible for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, managing parts inventory, and maintaining accurate service records. The role requires a balance of hands-on mechanical expertise and leadership skills, with the ultimate goal of maximizing efficiency, minimizing equipment downtime, and fostering a safe, productive work environment. This is a working foreman position.
Core Responsibilities Team Leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and train diesel technicians. Assign daily work orders, monitor progress, and provide technical guidance for complex diagnostics and repairs.
Operational Oversight:
Coordinate shop schedules to ensure repairs are completed promptly and within budget. Conduct quality inspections on finished work to ensure it meets all specifications.
Inventory & Resource Management:
Oversee the procurement and management of parts, tools, and shop supplies to ensure technicians have the necessary resources for their tasks.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce strict safety regulations and company policies to maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for fleet managers or customers regarding repair status, timelines, and technical recommendations.
Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Expertise:
Significant experience as a diesel mechanic, with in-depth knowledge of engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
Leadership & Communication:
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, resolve conflicts, and communicate technical information clearly to both staff and management.
Problem-Solving:
Skilled in quickly troubleshooting mechanical challenges.
Organizational Skills:
Capable of maintaining detailed service records, managing time sheets, and handling administrative documentation efficiently.
Mathematical Aptitude:
Able to use ratios, percentages, and basic algebra to manage inventory levels, calculate repair costs, and interpret diagnostic data.
